My favorite part of that game is that the starter pitched 6 innings, and then gave the ball over to another guy for 3 innings. That last guy got a save out of it all.

Some other points of interest:

Baltimore led the game 3 - 0 at one point and then were outscored 30 - 0.

The Rangers scored 16 Runs in the last two Innings.

The eight and nine hitters for the Rangers BOTH had seven RBI's each.

The Rangers hit two Grand Slams.

Baltimore used only four Pitchers and each one gave up six or more Runs.

This was the first game of a Double Header.

Texas needs to score 13 Runs in the second game to tie the record for most Runs scored by one team in a Double Header.

Never thought I'd see a game like this. 30 runs seemed unreachable. And among the bizarre things is after 5 innings the score was 5-3. The Rangers scored 25 runs in the last four innings! One of the all-time great box scores.

Two other interesting points:

When the Orioles batted in the bottom of the 9th, they trailed by 27 runs! No other team in major league history has ever trailed by that many runs at any point of any game. And of course the final score was the largest margin of victory ever.

Texas was shut out in five innings, and they scored all their runs in just four frames. That means they scored 30 runs using only 12 of their outs. That is extraordinary!!

I believe that the 36-7 game between Chicago and Louisville in 1897, represents a larger margin of victory (29 runs).

As an Orioles fan, all I can say is ouch. Before yesterday the last time a team allowed 25+ runs in a game? You guessed it, the 1996 Baltimore Orioles lost 26-7 to...the Texas Rangers. My Orioles hold virtually all of the horrible team records.

Ken- I should have qualified my statement with since 1900 (modern era).

19th century scoring was different than today. This was the ninth recorded 30 run game, and all the other eight were in the 19th century.

I was just speaking to a friend who like me, loves these very bizarre and extreme box scores, defined pretty much as games that are likely to occur once in a lifetime or only once ever.

The two best ones we could come up with from the last 50 years were the 1979 game in which the Phillies beat the Cubs 23-22 in 10 innings, and last night's. These are games that probably will never occur again. In 1981, Rochester and Pawtucket played 33 innings, and that one is equal to the other two in terms of rarity, but it was the minor leagues.
