Can someone please help me with some information on Baseball Magazine Premiums from the 30's 40's and 50's. Were they inserts in the magazine? sendaways? Cutouts etc.. |

They were inserts. baseball mag. starting putting them in, in about 1908 or 09, if I recall correctly. I know that some were reprinted at later dates. I know that many variations exist, and new ones are still being discovered. But they were not cut outs. They were inserts only. Of course there was the 1915 baseball premium of mathewson, if memory serves me. I beelive it was sold at ball parks only. |

The premiums where also a send-away item. Several years ago, on ebay, I purchase a 10 item lot of Baseball Magazine Premiums that included the original mailing envelope from Baseball Magazine. I've got it sitting around somewhere. |

By definition, premium means send away. Supplement means inclusion. If a magazine or newspaper print is a supplement, it was included with the publication. If a print is a premium you had to send away for it. |

Thanks for the help. I have the original Conlon Photo for the premium and now will buy the premium. I was going to wait for the National to buy the magazine issue but Kit Young is selling the premium |

The premiums were bought, separately. The magazines had ads that depicted a few of the premiums, and a list of names. The premiums were ordered by mail. I'll post a scan of an ad if you really want to see one. |

Frank, you know you're right. After a long week in 100 degree heat, my mind has cleared (doesn't happen often) and I now recall the ads for the premiums. In fact, I have seen them many times. I just had brain freeze I guess. The ads themselves are kind of cool. |

Well I was digging through my pile of stuff, and while looking for something else, I found a July 1943 Baseball Magazine. Which reminded me of this thread. Here's the premium ad from that magazine. I'll post another ad if I can find some of my older Baseball Magazines. |
