Just wondering whether there might be enough D.C. area folks to establish an informal group that might get together from time to time to tell card war stories, show-and-tell, whatever. Count me in. May I suggest Columbia, MD as a meeting spot? It is essentially the restaurant park for the Baltimore/Washington area and is conveniantly located betwixt the two. Let's get some of us Baltimoreans in the mix too!

especially during Super Bowl. I think this has promise and will wait a couple days for any additional responses. But, as to those who have not advised of where you live, please do so so that I can at least make an effort at suggesting a geographically tolerable place to meet. Obviously, going to be hard to make everybody happy. On the other hand, if this becomes a semi-regular activity, we can move the meeting spot around. I'm in Falls Church, by the way.

Ok. It looks like we have about a dozen folks interested in catching up. Names and locations (where provided) are Tom Botticelli (Fairfax), Andy Cook (Fairfax), James Feagin (Columbia), Ken Cohen (Alexandria), Ray (Capitol Hill), Bob Lamb, Alan (Rockville?), Brad Green (Chantilly), Bruce MacPherson (Falls Church), Mike, Don Johnson and Larrie Dean.

First off, let's move further discussion to private e-mails -- no need to burden (entertain?) the board with our efforts to get together. Once time and place determined, I will post it so that anyone interested can attend.

Next, suggestions include catching up in conjunction with the Tyson's Corner or Chantilly shows. This may make good sense. While I'm retired with no kids at home and look forward to getting out for special events, I realize that not everyone is in the same boat and others might find it more convenient to meet in conjunction with a show. If Tyson's, perhaps we could catch up in hotel bar/restaurant after the show. If Chantilly, then Willard's Barbecue might do the trick; in this case, we would need to decide which day of the show to meet -- Friday (lunch prior to show?), Saturday (presumably after show) or Sunday (presumably after show).

So, why don't each of you e-mail me with your preferences as to meeting in conjunction with Tyson's show, Chantilly show (include day preferred), or separate occasion. If the majority prefer the latter, I will follow up to get your preferences as to weekday evenings, weekends, location, etc. In that event, those who have not advised of where you live should probably do so.

The D.C. chapter held its first "meeting" last night as Bruce MacPherson, Ken Cohen, Andy Cook and I braved the icy cold for dinner and beer at Sweetwater Tavern in Falls Church. Good fun and card conversation. I'm hopeful we can gather again in the spring with others as well. If any of the N.Y.C. brethren might be inclined to take the train down to attend, I'm sure we can find a suitable place to meet near Union Station. Mark

On another note, for those who haven't been, Sweetwater is a really nice place to go (great food and great beer which they brew on site). The one in Sterling, VA is an old haunt of mine...

Mark, I'm seeing some collector/dealers like Larrie Dean, Don Johnson and Andy Cook that are deeply rooted in vintage cards, that plus quite a few collectors from the region showing interest.
In the past, I've already had the pleasure of meeting Alan, Bruce Mac, yourself and a few others at that show.
The show is slowly growng in the vintage population, the D. C. chapter can only enhance that.
Mark, I want to thank you for deciding to run the idea up the flagpole to see who would salute.
The Salutes are there.

Looking forward to meeting more of my fellow vintage indentured servant collectors.

1. Zip guns were from the mid forties, before WWII ended.
They were made from a metallic toy gun.
The toy gun was originally intended to shoot off a light balsa wood glider, which it did.
Zip guns were replaced by souvenir weapons that became plentiful when the second world war ended.
Not good for society, and only added to the West Side Story type of problems.

2. West Side story.
I spent over twenty years in show business, and in my very early years I was an extra in the West Side Story movie.
Needless to say, you touched a New York Sharks nerve.
Bring on da Jets, but betta yet, let's dance ova to da Chantilly show turf.

Oh yes, in response to your question, I'm 55 - I suppose old enough to remember zip guns, but not old enough to have used one. I grew up on the mean streets of Alexandria, VA.

Never had the pleasure, but I wish I did, she was beautiful.
It's funny you mentioned the dancing routine, and that's a coincidence because I'm not a dancer.
The days that I worked on the set, were mostly the ones when they were shooting the "Here comes the Jets" dancing number.
The movie was shot at part of a location known as Hell's Kitchen.
It was torn down shortly after the movie was finished.
It's now known as the Lincoln Center.

Looking forward to seeing you guys at Chantilly.

Glad to see that you found Mark's D. C. Chapter.

Cy is another one of the good guys at the Chantilly show.
Like he says, he usually has a table up front -- he doesn't wear a beard, nor does he carry around a briefcase of money.
He does however, have an interesting selection of vintage cards.

The Chantilly show is from the 16th of March thru the 18th, not the 17 - 19.
I could use the old standby excuse that I'm getting on in years, but this is worse, ..... I copied someone else mistake.
