I collect a lot of stuff related to baseball. I like the N172 cards because they are actual photographs of the players from the early years of baseball. There are a lot of interesting poses and some that are repeated over and over again. |

Hey Fred,I love that Graves card, never saw it before. Ive been looking for a Ramsey for awhile too,i had to settle for a trimmed one.I used to collect Pirates cards when i first started but after i couldnt find any new ones i went for cool poses for awhile. If you ever want to trade that Graves feel free to pick a few cards from this scan,I'll even swap the trimmed Ramsey i have in exchange for yours, hey you said you were gonna upgrade sometime anyway |

All the variations. Risky move by Goodwin though it must have paid off. Expensive to print, but with photography in it's early stages and the other cards as drawings. I'd bet these were a extremely popular. |

Wow John, those are great cards. I have a couple Graves (both different poses). I'd trade the one posted for a few of those cards. I could use Weaver and Tyng, and is that Alvord on Toledo? Ive been looking for that team too. Is that a Detroit Campau? Bennett isn't exactly easy to find either. I suppose I could trade the Ramsey for your trimmed one in a possible deal, but the one I have may be rebacked. I tell you what, lets take this off line as this isn't the BST. I still can't get over that Tyng! |

Chris, that's such a nice card of Mac. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for not outbidding you on that one. You got a pretty good deal on it. The image on that Mac is nice! |

Fred, John, Steve, Leon, Chris....great cards all! I love the N172s for the same reasons everyone else here does. Real photographs, all kinds of interesting poses, can be collected many different ways, the friendships and help that comes with meeting others that share the same love, the ability to peer back into baseball history whenever the need arises just by holding one. I'm sure I'll be boring some that have seen these more than once, but I never tire.

Steve, the sepia tone is due to aging. The cards were originally closer to black |

Here is my single example from the set, Al Mays of Columbus. I've contemplated trying to collect the team but haven't mustered up the courage to take the plunge yet. We'll see. |

Zach, how tough are the Columbus cards? I contemplated putting the Omaha team set together, but after seeing how difficult (impossible?) it will be to complete the set I've decided to just focus on getting a few. |

John- I am sure Bobby is just helping a brother out with the scans.....and it's appreciated. As you know (and I am pretty sure) Lew still owns that one...And here's a card for Joe G to see again.....man have these things shot up in value in recent years..... |

Lew Lipset does own a high SGC graded Dailey of Oakland, but the one Bobby posted is the SGC 10 that appeared and was sold on eBay by Terry Knouse. The image has been touched up but the gunk still remains in the corners of the image. |

I might have only "thought" it was Lew's as it is so nice looking. The one Lew has is in an SGC 86 holder. If it was photo shopped then I am sure Zach knows more than I do on this card..... |

Great thread, I don't know where to start. First, I believe Lew's California League card is Jim McDonald - Oakland. Second, yes I do like the Brooklyn minis ![]() ![]() ![]() Best Regards, Joe Gonsowski |

The only one I own, and still one of my favorite cards. I like showing this one to kids. I explain how this was an action shot for the olden days - they can see how photography has changed from then to now. |

Man I did not want to miss out on this one! I had to wait all day to get home from work, play with the kids, eat dinner, clean up from dinner, play with the kids some more, get the kids ready for bed just so I could join the crowd here. I must say there are some great OJ's shown here. I am in awe of all of you! I will offer here a few of mine. Most of my others are a bit more worn and do not present as well. |

I absolutely like looking at everybody elses OJs. It's really nice to see people posting them in all conditions. I'm a big stat junky and one of the niches I collect are batting leaders. The player below (Foghorn Tucker) holds the distinction of being the switch hitter having the highest batting average to win a batting title (.372 in 1889 to pace the AA). |
