Other than the HOFer's and Black Sox of the MONSTER, who are some of the other stars of the time, who arguably should not be considered commons....

Ginger Beaumont -- 12 seasons, lifetime .311 avg
Harry Davis -- led dead ball league in HR's 4 consecutive years
Cy Seymour
Sherry Magee -- (not Magie)a top level player of his day
Larry Doyle --(no the error)won a Chalmer's (MVP) award in 1911
Gavvy Cravath -- a HR hitter
Chief Wilson -- hold the single-season record for triples (36)
Ed Reulbach -- lifetime 2.28 ERA and .632 winning percentage
Deacon Phillipe -- lifetime 2.59 ERA and .634 winning percentage
Mike Donlin -- lifetime .333 hitter (12 seasons)

He was an HR hitter at the end of the dead ball era. He led the NL in HRs in 6 out of 7 seasons from 1913-1919.

Chief Wilson's record of 36 triples will never be broken and is one of the most bizarre records in baseball. The next highest total is 26, by Joe Jackson and one other player. I don't believe there is another record in the game where there is such a disparity between the record holder and the next highest total.

The other person from that era is Sam Crawford. There were however several 19th century players that were between 26 and 36 triples (the highest being 31 triples by two players). But since the thread was for the T206 era the 36/26 totals apply here.

Hal Chase,
For years the Leagues' snake in the grass and perenial pain in the ass to management, which helped his social standing with some players (the loving cup). His deviant behavior off the field made the Black Sox, even Cobb look like alter boys. He really had a knack for playing one against the other. He was a great athlete and if they had Paxil back then, Hal would be a shoo in for the Hall.

Red Murray:

- Understated base-stealer (143 from 1910-1912)
- Twice finished in the top 5 of stolen bases and hr's (only others to do this were Wagner and Cobb)
- Amazing in the outfield (led in assists twice)

On a related topic...does anybody know the last ballplayer that appeared on a T206 to be elected to the Hall of Fame and how long ago? Just wondering if any of the candidates above will ever get the chance....if so I would imagine the card values would increase.

i think vic willis & g. davis were the last ones, maybe 15 years ago...

next inline would be deacon phillipe, IMO. i have heard he is on the cusp (now watch his cards go up in value becuase of my comment)...

My guess would be Victor Gazaway Willis, elected in 1995. Gazaway, now theres a different middle name for you.
My grandfathers middle name was Shields. Thomas Shields Thomas 1899-1974. Hope to be half as good a grandpa as he was.

George Davis was the last member of T206 to be elected, a couple of years after Willis. I heard that the HOF couldn't locate any of Davis's ancestors for the ceremony. Has anyone else heard that story?

Dick Rudolph (Richard “Baldy” Rudolph) B/R T/R 5’ 9.5” 160 lbs.
Team affiliation in the set – Toronto
DOB – 8/25/1887 New York, NY
DOD – 10/20/49 Bronx, NY Age 62
Position – Pitcher
Major League experience – 13 seasons, debuted 9/30/10. 1910-11 NY-Natl., 1913-27 Bost.-Natl. Spitballer Rudolph had a handful of brilliant years but hung on to pitch 13 Major League seasons. He posted an impressive 121-108 W-L record with a lifetime ERA of 2.66. He was a 20 game winner twice for the Boston Natl’s in 14’ and 15’ with 26 (led the league) and 22 wins respectively. His sterling 14’ season included a 27-10 W-L record with 31 complete games and 2.35 ERA.
His 1914 WS heroics for the Boston Braves are a career achievement. He would beat Phil. Ace Chief bender in Game 1 (7-1, 5 hitter) and topple the great Bob Shawkey to clinch the 4-0 WS sweep in Game 4 (3-1). He struck out 15 A’s and allowed only 1 earned run in the two contests. He even went 2-6 with a run scored in the Series to help his causes!

With Bill James and Lefty Tyler, spitballer Dick Rudolph rotated in a trio that pitched the 1914 Braves from last place on July 4 to the pennant. Rudolph paced the staff with 27 wins (tying him for the NL lead with Grover Alexander) and added two more in the World Series as the Braves swept the Athletics in four games. Rudolph was one of those allowed to continue using the spitter after 1919, though he was never successful again. After baseball, Rudolph became a''mortician. (JK)
