The New York Times reports in this morning's paper that Silas Simmons, who played professionally for about fifteen years and was a member of the 1913 Homestead Grays, is still alive. Born Oct. 14, 1895, he will turn 111 next month. He is still alert and in good health. That means that Chet Hoff, the oldest major leaguer ever, is no longer the oldest professional player. Try and get a copy of the article, I am sure it is online. |
