The 1st thread takes some time to open, so I thought I would start a new thread. Since this is new, I thought I would also add a couple different cards. I really like looking at cards (and your wife, mom, friend, mom's friend, husband, and pretty much everyone else, do not), so I thought it would be fun to share a couple cards with the group. Here a 2 more of my favorite cards. They were not chosen because they were the most expensive or rarest, they were just so damn nice to look at, I had to share them. I only have 1 OJ and 1 PC. Here they are. Show off your favorite cards!

Very difficult choice to make.....

King Kelly, because he is in my favorite set....and, it is a "dramatic" looking card.
Those storm clouds behind him are characteristic of his personality. They haven't
printed cards this beautiful since 1888.

I switched from Mantle to Joe DiMaggio....we do have to keep this Pre-WWII......
and this 1941 PlayBall just barely makes it under the wire. Also, it happens to be
the finest card in my entire vintage collection. And it is a tribute to Joe's enduring
record.....that in my opinion will never be broken.....his 56 game hitting streak.

John - OJ Kelly could have been graded much higher. The back is clean, and the corners are sharp. It must have been the diamond cut, I can't see any other reason.

Ted, that is totally amazing. I got a start a little later than you did, so I wound up with several one cent Mantles, but none survived in a condition near to yours. Actually, the '57 was washed twice in my dungarees.

You musta gotten drawn away from cards right after acquiring the Mantle. What was her name?

Her name was June S........a really pretty 12 year old blonde that lived just down
the block from me and we used swap comic books and go to the ice cream parlor.
I guess I'd blame her for me not collecting all those artistic 1953 Topps cards, or
even more regretably......the photo quality 1953 Bowmans.

Oh well, I have them all now, so I really don't blame June.

Incidently Gil, there's a good chance that we'll have a "Subway Series" this year....
but, your old Giants wont be in it.

Once they left NY, Ted, my old Giants became only a fond memory of my youth. Guys like Cepeda, Kirkland, and later McCovey, were players on a California team.

It was fun, but it was tuff too. Realizing that my old Giants were not even the best NL team in New York. And how the Braves were kept from the pennant for so long with players like Adcock, Crandall (did they have Post?) Burdette, Spahn, Matthews, Aaron - sheeze - they were so powerful that they often batted Matthews second in the lineup, cause everyone was a HR threat. And Adcock was unbelievable in the clutch.

But lets not take away from this terrific thread.

Your Phillippe/Engle (I think) card is very interesting......as it defies our previous
understanding that players were repeatedly printed on a vertical basis. As many
cards have shown us with the same name on top and bottom of oversize T206s.

Thanks for sharing this T206 with us.

At least I had the decency to be lured by a mature female. A genuine teenager, Judy. Fully a woman of stature. Thirteen years of age.

She had a friend named June. (what did they say about her?) Oh yes. We hated to see her go, but we never missed a second of it.

Give me a break.....I was 14 at the time I dated 12-year old June.

Actually, her sister Beverly was 15....tall....blonde....and more beautiful.

But, Gil....I am sure you recall how these things were back in the '50s.....
a 15 year old girl would even look at a guy under 18 years old. Anyhow, Beverly
ended up marrying a classmate of mine. So, you see how that "rule" fell apart
once you hit your 20's.

And, I don't know what ever happened to June. But, I will ask her sister next year
as we will meet at our 50th High School reunion.

Boy....am I getting old.

You still got me by a year. I didn't feel the irrestable call of the wild until I was 15. So, I got to enjoy Killebrew's start. But that was it.

Ahhhh......did you ever perfect that "Time Machine" of yours that you were telling us about
in one of your posts several months ago ?

Where is it......so, we can take a trip back on "memory lane" to our youth in the 1950's.
But, don't want to go back too far, though. We have to stop in the year we got our first
"Wheels" and I took June to the Drive-Ins in Hillside, NJ and you with Judy in North Jersey.

Anyhow, you and I are quite fortunate, however, as we saved all our BB cards from back then.

Ted: Judy and I parted our ways regretfully too early.
However, she had two friends, one of whom Ive stated was enjoyable to watch depart. Her name was June.

The other was named Carol, she was similarly configured, but somewhat more enhanced. I hooked up with Carol then. But cars were still a while off.

How long did you and June stsy together? From 12 thru drive ins, apparently - dirty old dino.

I kind of like the fact that the back of the D359 references the non sport card set.

I wonder how many kids actually got the whole set and redeemed their Baseball Cards for the Mail of All Nations cards... Thank goodness they returned the Baseball Cards too with the offer!

Dockstater? An interesting puzzle.

Looks a bit heavyset to be an athlete.
But then again bears a resemblance to the
orange background Cubbie in the upper right
who has his name trimmed off.
