I AM NOT SURE IF YOU GOOD PEOPLE KNOW THAT PAYPAL WEB SITE IS REALLY WWW.X.COM. THIS IS THE SHORT WEB ADDRESS THAT EXISTS. ONE OF THING PAYPAL MAKES MORE PROFIT THAN THEIR EBAY SITE. THERE IS GOING TO BE A NEW WEB SITE CALLED GBAY AND MOST EXPERT BELIVE THEY WILL GIVE PAYPAL A RUN FOR THERE MONEY AND SO DO I. PAYPAL NEEDS SOME COMPETION TO LOWER THE PRICES THEY CHARGE. |

there are no single letter dot-anythings out there. There has been talk recently about allowing them and the Yahoo and Overstock have already filed legal papers to try and ensure they get www.y.com and www.o.com, respectively. |

Anyone that comes on the board and can't write nearly as well as my 3rd grader will end up hanging themselves. Tough crowd.....just the way I like it. |

well, I just typed in "www.x.com" and guess what - I went to paypal's website - or at least a very good copy of it. Jay, I think you may want to revisit your earlier assumption. |

Yeah Josh - I had been wondering about that. PayPal's site? Or someone using forums for fishing? (I know - it's phishing - but can't get myself to use it casually.) |

I just tried www.y.com and www.o.com and got invalid url messages. If single letter URLs are being allowed, these two would be among the first to go along with www.a.com and www.z.com. I'd guess it's a phishing scheme. |

Actually, X.com is, I believe, one of the only single letter domain names that was allowed to get into public circulation. The others were reserved by IANA, which originally ran the .com TLD. ICANN now controls their destiny and has, thus far, locked them up for some future use down the road. When I was in law school, a class I had on Internet Law had some big whigs from ICANN as guest speakers and they mentioned (this was around 2000) that one thought was to auction the domain names to raise funds for ICANN's operations. |

X.com used to be known as "com corporation" and they provided the same services as paypal before paypal was around. Paypal and com joined together (no buyout just equal partners) to create the largest online banking and payment service of it's day. |

I still think its a phish. I emailed paypal and asked their security center if www.x.com was actually a link to them or a phish. The response was basically that they could not tell me if the website was legit or not. If paypal doesnt even know one of its own web addresses, Im certainly not going to use it. |

X.com was one of the first internet banks. I know because I had an account there. It is not a fisch. It later renamed itself to Paypal. |
