Can anyone give me any more information about this set. I realize it is probably cheap because the players are generic, but I think they are great looks pieces and it will be my first set from the 1800s. |

They are scraps (die-cut cardboard figures) that were punched out. The official name for these types of die cuts is 'scraps' and they can be of everything from angels to flowers to puppies. Below is a picture of three pieces still stuck together. They were sold to kids who would punch them out and put them in albums or whatever. Collecting scraps was a popular kid's pastime. If you look at late 1800s Victorian albums, you will see that kids collected trade cards, trading cards and scraps together ... I owned the below R & S Die Cuts and, while they are somewhat small and don't depict specifica players, they are quality items and worth collecting. |

How would these be graded then without the tabs? Would that be considered a defect and detract from the technical grade? |

They can grade Mint when punched out (no tabs). They were physcally designed to be removed, with no scissors cutting required. I would compare them to the Sports Illustrated for Kids Tiger Woods cards, which had perforated edges so they could be removed from the sheet of cards inserted into the magazine. The Tiger Woods card can receive a grade of Mint from all the major graders, and I beleive a single R & S can too. |

of all 10 players or even more. I've seen Terry Knouse with a sheet of 10 players I believe. All connected. That would only make sense as I'm sure they were sold (or given away) in that format. |
