Slowdown in low-midgrade stuff

Anyone noticed a plateau or slight decline in $$$ realized for low-midgrade prewar stuff? I'm wondering if tax season, gas prices, the alignment of the planets, etc...have something to do with it?

I think the recent emphasis is on higher grade non-rare cards, particularly by the new money from those cashing out their bullion related material.

It won't last. Most of us can't afford that stuff and IMO, the high grade, common stuff isn't that exciting anyway.

I have not noticed, but my guess is that if there is a slowdown, it would not be related to higher-end stuff. They are really different markets, at least in the time-frame you are suggesting. But I have not noticed a slowdown. But perhaps you are noticing a slight cool off due to a lot of people having recently spent their wads in the flury of recent auctions.

i have to agree with jimb. there seems to be a recent flurry of interesting things to hit the marketplace since the big auctions as people have "blown their wads" and then some and are selling some dupes or whatever to help cover costs.

It couldn't be a bubble? Could it? There was lots of "cheap" money in the economy recently, especially with interest rates at historic lows. People were pulling money from their home equity, etc.

I'm hoping this stuff drops through the floor. A correction of sorts. Maybe, just maybe, all the speculator collectors will get scared and start a sell off.... ok, maybe I'm dreaming a little bit but it would be nice to see the prices drop a little bit.

A bubble perhaps. Could be like the one last seen around 1929. Crude is up, home prices are up, stocks are up, precious metals - thru the roof. This could certainly lead to a correction. It sure did in the 30s.

Have to disagree with certain pre-war caramel cards. E93s, E94s and E97s remain hot, even commons, even low to mid grade.

The recent auctions would seem like a good reason. There will always be an ebb and flow in the price ranges of cards but older vintage cards seem to be doing better now than i can remember. They are not making anymore E93's E94's etc. and with more and more people entering the marketplace i dont see demand for quality vintage cards dropping anytime soon. Would be nice but i dont see it happening.

Well then I here what it seems like:

Certain rarer issues and Caramel Cards seem pretty strong...

The more common, better known T-cards T201 thru T207... A bit weaker on the non-HOFers, yes I can see that to some extent.

As discussed elsewhere: The more common OJs (including the more common HOFers) have definitely cooled. The rare OJs -- still heading up.
