These two sets come with numerous back variations, Famous & Barr, Indianapolis Brew, Sport news etc... My question is this are they only considered M101-4's & 5's if they have blank backs. I see them graded by PSA and SGC and they will not mention the ACC# and just label it as a 1916 Famous & Barr or 1916 Sporting News. Should'nt it be like the T206 set with all the different back variations. Reason for my asking is I am in the process of building vintagecardprices.com and want to make sure I properly list these sets. Should I list all the different back variations as seperate sets or just classify them in the M101-4 & 5 sets with notation to the back on that card? |

Robert I would list as M101-4&5 sets with notation to the back on that card. |

To further complicate your issue...Sporting News is used as a back desription and a card description. I have a 1915 Joe Jackson card and the SGC label states "1915 The Sporting News" but the back is Famous and Barr. |

One complication is the letter "M". It signifies that the set was issued in connection with a publication (like the Sporting News). The graders may be reluctant to apply the letter "M" to a card issued by a brewery or bakery. |

You face several obstacles, unless you sift through the transactions to accurately classify them yourself. For one, there are alot of slabbed cards out there that still show a 1915 date for the sets, which is in error(Beckett even has some from 1917, also wrong). Next, M101-4 cards with Sporting News back will be labeled as such, so you can't call all m101-4's blank. Third, as you noted, some will be labeled with m101-5 or m101-4 even with a different ad back. Fourth, Globe Clothing has its own ACC designation (H-809), as do others (Standard biscuit and Weil come to mind). |
