Jim - That Oaks book is neat, I just think the description is interesting in that at the beginning they say it is uncatalogued, and at the end they say it is an important set.

"An incredibly rare complete set of 24 uncatalogued 1938 Oakland Oaks player stamps, ......... An important set that is missing from virtually all advanced collections!"

I applaud Jim's decision to disclose his consignments in a direct and transparent way.

I'm tired of the usual auction season hidden agenda "hyping" threads from one of our board regulars.

Guess it's a bit early in the game or maybe he didn't consign a single Old Judge/KB/GQ this time around.

Wow...nice stuff...BUT...I don't understand why Nagy had a trimmed Plank. The story given doesn't make sense...or explain why he had a trimmed Plank. Am I a moron?

The description says that the card was obtained from Fred McKie in a trade.

Fred McKie is a regular show walker at Fort Washington. I am sure that he could expound on the details of the trade.

Still have not received my catalog - I hate searching everything online.

I think the trimmed Plank is the replacement card. The one that Nagy sold was a higher grade.

There seemed to be a paragraph that got edited out in the story. I also believe that he gave up the higher grade card with the assumption that he could find a replacement some day, but only found the trimmed version as a replacement. But they kind of left us on the edge without explaining the history of this card. Who really cares abouit the one "he used to have."

I had a watch list of 15 and have now chiseled it down to nine, but I am only going to bid like a maniac on one card this time (or possibly 2).

I noticed that the Joe Jackson Sporting News card is identified as a m101-5 in the title but in reality is a m101-4 and states such in the SGC grade.

First thing I do is flip through all of the card categories real fast. If I see something I "need" then I go "oh crap" to myself. Because I know I will most likely end up spending a lot of money (for me) or have serious anxiety if I don't. If there is nothing I "need", which I don't think there is this time, then I take a breath and figure out what I "want". But if there's nothing I need I know I might not "have" to spend money.....GREAT auction as usual. regards

I still haven't received a catalog and I have bought from them in each of the last three auctions.

On further thought, according to the UPS tracking info my purchases from the last auction are suppose to arrive tomorrow, so perhaps they killed two birds with one stone and put my catalog in with my cards.

I do the same as Leon, I look to see if there is a must have in the catalog and breathe a sigh of relief if nothing fits in that category. Then I wait for the house to be quiet
no kids, no wife, no dog, (well actually the dog can stay) and crack a few Michelob lights and take my time going over each lot. I dont collect bats, autographs or uniforms so I check out the vintage ones but pass over the post WWII stuff. I mark down lots I am interested in and then check my various wantlists to see what I want to bid on. I got
superior, Mastro and sothebys catalogs all on the same day! Thats a great day!
