Sounds like you got a raw deal, but I honestly don't have an issue with the grade assigned. It's well within their grading standards.

What they did with me wasn't really a bid deal, they weren't way out of wack..i would have graded the viola a 2.5 and the johnson a 4 but how can you say that a card with 2 relatively big holes is in fair condition? That looks poor to me.... it's not exactly like qualifiers in that the condition of the card itself is without a doubt in worse condition! A card with a mark on it may not actually be in worse condition (although personally i just factor that into the grade). I think the card should grade less than a 1 but since that's not possible, a 1 is what this should be. Buy the card, not the grade!

they have expert people on staff ,but...there is always someone going to be disgruntled and someone very happy. Sometimes it is thankless for them too.

Customer service is most important and I found them to be all of service oriented.

Alot of times there are issues sight unseen, it happens !....there will be times that mistakes happen , that it the chance you take.

Dan - I agree with you about their customer service, that being said, customer service has no bearing on the actual service they provide. BUT...customer service shouldn't alleviate them of their duties to provide accurate grades. I pride myself on great customer service, but if i suck at my job in the first place, then i have bigger problems! I can deal with what they did with my cards, but this is ridiculous. I still wouldn't mind picking it up even though i already have one....but buy the card not the grade.

Well, since the adage is to "buy the card and not the holder", I don't see where anyone is fooled here. Besides, whether it is graded a 1, a 1.5 or a 6 for that matter, nobody is going to bid by the slab grade based upon the obvious condition fault. In fact, the slab in this case only serves to assure bidders of authenticity and lack of altering to improve condition.

I think that red Hitler mustache is what bumped it up a half a grade.

I recently sent a T202 that was in a ugly GAI holder to SGC and get reholdered only to have it come back trimmed. Not to good for GAI in my book.

I think a lot comes down to what is considered a "pin" hole. If you view their standards, I can see where it fetched the grade. While the card has a few overwhelming flaws, think of some of the other stuff that has graded pr-fr. Poor allows for chunks taken out of the card.

Can you elaborate about this, Al Davis?

BTW, based on GAI's grading standards they reserve the 1 for cards that are actually missing paper or part of the card. While you can argue that the holes are missing part of the card it is not as if a corner was torn off, which would deem the card a 1. I like the way they distinguish on their lower grades.

I was down there a few weeks ago, and saw no sign of money issues. They were really crowded with a huge volume of material in every stage from intake to shipping, and talking about looking for bigger facilities. They don't get payment on terms, so I hardly think cash flow is an issue.

Been watching (and buying, some) e90-1 cards for awhile on ebay. All I can say is that my $7.00 "One arm" Stone, and this "SGC 10" Jennings, look a lot nicer:

Thanks for the reply. By the sound of the posts on the CU forum it sounds like there are some people who have had bad experiences with GAI. All grading companies have their problems, some more than others.

You should ask our very own Dan McKee about his experience with PSA and their losing one of his cards and how they handled it. Grading companies are going to mess up, as we all do.

I get the feeling that GAI is doing just fine though.

I have used them exclusivly since becoming disenchanted with PSA.
As far as my experiance goes they have been great to deal with. Never would you get the great service from PSA that you have with Danny and Mike. Also out of 30 or so sub's i have not had a single problem up to this point. Unfortunatly i think there are alot of alterior motive's behind many posts on these boards, but i do notice from being a long time lurker here that most of the grading co. bashers are either new guy's or someone not using there correct name.

Other than Dan that is.

I have my own issues with GAI as far as their leniency in grading, IMO. I know a few favors that have been given too.....but I would guess none of the grading companies are perfect. As for bashing anonymously it won't happen on this watch. Mr.Davis and all of his posts have been escorted to the door.....regards....
