and I don't know about you guys, but I'm broke! Long term pay is all I could handle...a Tobin Lithograph, a N300 Brouthers, an N172 Beckley are my wants.

This card (as many flawed cards do) scans very badly. The front is all right, but the back: the print is actually a good deal darker, and the stain a good deal paler--but this is the way I had to scan it to minimize the stain (still too dark, though). It was a GAI 3. And it really didn't deserve a 3, in spite of the great lithography, because there are small spots of paper loss on the back.

since I picked up 2 more 1913 Boston Garters, I have been asking myself that same question.

I cannot believe that a guy like me in Michael Moores little old Craptown Michigan that I have 3 of these in pretty nice shape ,I truly am overwhelmed.

to occupy myself ,I guess that I would settle for a t204 Johnson, T 205 Marquard and Lush STL in strong 5's or 6's a t208 of any, t215 Pirate of any.

My last 2 Tip Tops....Dreyfuss and the Mascot Boy....c'mon guys !

Iam a color collector and that is why Lush is on my list of t205's. The Cardinals of Huggins Bresnahan Lush and Evans ,you put the 4 together and they are beauties as long as you have the real glossy gold showing.


E102 and E103 of Wags and E105's of Matty and Cobb and a couple of E107's hof's and a FOur Base Hit card amd a n167 OLd Judge, zatz about it......not much in asking, Haa???

Suffering some post-convention blues. I really thought I would be able to close out some sets but the P-2 Sweet Cap pins, M116s and some caramel cards just flat weren't there. Makes you wonder...

Funny how everyone resorts back to Ebay after the National! Would those who went say that Ebay prices for high end material are now higher after the National or are collectors suffering from the empty pocket syndrome for a while?

After the National, and putting a severe dent into the 1933 Goudey set (picked up 41 cards, including a Ruth, Dean, Lyons, and Foxx) I want to try to pick up a couple Matty cards. I love the portrait designs and colors on most of his cards.
But alas, I am suffering from "empty pockets" syndrome, and will have to wait a few weeks until there is more "gas in the tank" so to speak.
Ok, that's enough cliches for one day!

I did not go to the National but have definitely noticed that a lot of you folks have returned to ebay - I have won next to nothing in the last week. I did get a couple of nice pickups while you were away though.

I'd say the attitude of the collectors who went to Nationa, vis a vis buying on ebay, is different. I returned with a vengance, full of regret that cards I wanted weren't there and seeing the high prices there as opposed to better prices on ebay. I bought several caramels and other cards, on and off ebay so now I really have the empty pocket syndrome. Some returned with more of a wait and see attitude.
I did notice at the National that I had developed the "ebay syndrome" though, as did a few other guys I talked to. In looking at cards we would immediately mentally determine what the same card would go for on ebay. That kept me off some cards, I confess. I also noticed that dealers who buy OR sell on ebay seem to have been slightly influenced by ebay sales prices, especially with regard to the few caramels I saw.

Hi,
I haven't checked this forum in awhile, but I went to the National, my first big card show in a long time. I only collect T206 (and usually only graded at that) so I knew that I would not have that many tables to choose from. I didn't really know what to expect, but I was pretty disappointed, as I am used to buying cards on ebay and paying those prices. I half expected to get even better than ebay prices because I thought the dealers would want to sell their cards, but for the most part I just got the idea that the dealers were happy to keep their cards and not take my money. Every time I'd ask about a price I would get back "those are really hot right now." I'd say, "yes, I know, this is all I collect, and I pay 10-15% less than that on ebay." Basically everyone had "Buy It Now" prices on their cards!
Luckily for me, my wife and I lined up a week's worth of sightseeing and fun in Chicago, so all was not lost...
But I have to say, it was worth going just to see some Wagners in person and that set of Cracker Jack cards and David Levin's Old Judge find.

The next Philly Show at Ft. Washington, Pennsylvania on Sept 23
to 25th.

Its still the best in the nation after 30 years running. If you
cannot make in Sept, the next one is Dec 2-4,'05. Most of your
favorite dealers that are at the National are also at Philly.

And, a lot of dealers that never do the National with some
really great stuff. And, I will guarantee you that you will
find prices a lot more reasonable than you did at the National

I just got back from a NAxcom show down in San Diego. Very poor, as far as prewar stuff was concerned. Most of the dealers had no idea what caramel issues were. However, someone tried to pan a fake T206 Young off on me. At least I got to meet Willie Mays.

Naxcom will be here next weekend, followed by Tristar in San Franciso (Labor Day weekend). I hope to knock out a few more of the cards for my set.
