The thing that brought me to this forum was the overall love of baseball cards shared by the members of the board. It’s great a place where advanced collectors and beginning collectors could share pictures, stories and even dreams about baseball cards and collecting them. |

Pictures and stories of how everyone got the prized cardboard would be great. Here is my poor contribution. Got it from Ben Fisher! I do love Ty Cobb cards - I just can't afford the really nice ones. I take what I can get and treasure them just the same. |

I agree John. Seems like the board is more of a place to argue and insult others. A case in point, a month or so ago I started a thread asking people to share unusal stories about players that others may not have been aware of. I mean, I don't just collect HOF'ers. I collect people who have had a significant impact on the game, or players that have interesting stories, whether it's Merkle's boner, Snodgrass's drop, Bridwell's hit in the boner game, Luke Sewell being the first player to suggest dragging the infield during the game. Anyway, you get my point. I thought it would be a great discussion with people sharing lots of great stories. One person responded. I was a little disappointed because I feel that is what this board should be about. I was thrilled to find this sight some 7 or 8 months ago and have learned a lot by reading, but it really does seem to be going south quickly. I too would like to get back to the basics. That might be asking too much. Seems like there is very little real collector's info. Seems like too many people just want to prove they are right instead of making friends with other collectors and learning from each other, As tbob always says " if only we could have the good 'ol days back." |

It seems to me the Board has a diverse and appropriate mix of "pure" card questions/discussions, more general sports discussions (my post about long HRs got quite a few responses, for example), and pointed discussions about controversial issues that come up from time to time such as the Keeler card. People are free to ignore the threads that don't interest them, but I see no reason to limit the other types of discussions as obviously many people including myself find them stimulating. As we take our collecting and our sports passionately, of course there are going to be disagreements, but my take as a relatively new member is that with perhaps an occasional exception and those folks know who they are the "arguments" are not personal/ad hominem in nature, they simply reflect strongly held views on things that matter to people. And I think a valuable service is performed when people here uncover matters such as the Keeler card that raise serious questions, and I for one commend them for doing so. |

I also remember not too long ago, Julie getting bashed by people because she WAS posting scans. To me that is just crazy. I would like to see more scans. I for one always enjoyed Julie's scans and any others that people post of items I might not otherwise see. |

the T213 seies 3 cards were printed in Louisiana...they were produced with a Factory 3 listing at the bottom of the card. Some of the cards were "overprinted" with a black bar and changed to factory 8. |

I agree with Leon. I just scanned the 169 threads and counting related to the Keeler cabinet and although I don't contribute to this board much, I am always full of opinions. Many I keep to myself. But I think it is time for some of the regular posters to take a break. This also includes the Cobb decal bat thread, which gave me a headache and forced me to have my afternoon beer a little earlier today. Doesn't everybody have other things to do than live on this website? It is a useful tool for disseminating information about vintage memorabilia and there is nothing wrong with playing hobby cop and exposing hobby frauds for what they are. But too much of anything is not good. I say everybody take a deep breath, take a break, and get the board back to discussions of vintage material that help educate the fellow collector. All this invective is bad for everybody; you're going to take years off your life. That's just one man's opinion, for what it's worth. Happy holidays to you all. |

And as a postscript- Leon, keep posting those great photos of rare vintage cards. I think they have a calming, even hypnotic effect on the board. Everytime you post a photo, everyone seems to calm down. I think you should become the board therapist; whenever the thread is too long or too volatile, just post a few rare backs and everyone will relax, perhaps even find themselves drifting into a deep and relaxing sleep. It takes their minds off all of their other problems. |

This board isn't a neat little book with a perfectly thought-out table of contents and index. Most of the people who contribute aren't writers, most know far less than others (they especially know less than experienced hobbyists like Barry) about the hobby, some have poor communication skills and/or hot tempers. And on top of all of that, most don't even agree on what subjects should be allowed on this board - some won't even tolerate ANY of the exposes of late, others want to talk politics and religion, and still others just like to talk and don't know much about anything. (I possess many of the traits in question, some of which I'm not proud of). When I get sick of the rambling arguments, I stop opening the thread in question. When I get sick of the board in general, I go away for a while - I highly recommend both techniques. BTW - I find the Keeler discussion disgusting as well, but I doubt it's for the same reasons as the four of you. I have much more tolerance for "heated discussions", but very low tolerance for ignorance and lies. But that's what makes a horse race. |

about vintage scans, (very PLENTIFUL!) of cards and photos. (The "sleeping Mickey" is a recent exception--and referred only to the pennant race and WS, anyway!)I remember a couple of phrases in particular, "the way she clogs up threads with her scans" and "she should have a special site where she can post her own scans to her heart's content". There was also a HUGE stink about posts of Japanerse cards as a memorial to Hiroshima which no Japanese ever found anything but beautiful.... |

I enjoy seeing the pictures that Julie posts. I actually enjoy seeing all the pictures. Most of the cards that people put up are great cards that I wish I had in my collection. It is good to know that these cards reside in someones collection that really do appreciate them the way that they deserve. I wish people would post more pictures about the recent finds and the stories behind them. I realize that not everyone enjoys sharing their "hobby" finds, but for someone like me it is great to hear them. I would post my own but I doubt many people on this board would be interesting in looking at my new t206 bender portrait that I picked up on Ebay - but you never know |

I'll stick by my previous suggestion that Julie create a web-site - her wit, creativity, and hobby experience/knowledge would make for a very interesting web-site. I remember it the way Julie remembers it. I guess it sticks in my mind because at the time I really thought people were bashing her beyond belief. Yes Chris,i dont think anyone was worrying about her posts, and as i and everyone else remembers it,it was more that the posts were off subject alot of the time.No one complains when old judge photos show up in threads about the player on the card or a thread about old judge cards. It was more that every one of her posts had a scan and that most(not all) of them were off subject. It had nothing to do with posting scans that were relevant because theres no reason to complain about that |
