I also thought Jodi's mention was interesting and would enjoy hearing details. |

I was in Chicago when they were tearing down Comiskey and we drove out (at night) to take a look...I wanted to get out and snag a brick...they had a big huge pile of them with white paint on them, but my buddy said no way, too dangerous of an area. |

This is funny because it reminds me of my Baseball "Brick" story. I was able to visit and walk through Harry Stoveys house in New Bedford Massachusetts a few years ago. The owner was a very nice Hispanic couple and let me go all over including in the attic and down in the basebment and even fed me a tamale. The house is falling into disrepair and the chimney was breaking apart so I offered $20 for a box full of bricks and an old porch post that was down in the basement and a few other things. I have had about 3-4 bricks in my garage thinking that a few close friends in SABR and on this forum would want one and I had NO takers. Everyone I offered them to for free told me that they were not interested. For a while I thought I was weirder than everyone else. It is a good thing I still think they are cool. It was really fun to able to walk through his house but I wish I could have done it in the 1920's and asked for a few hundred autographs! |

I don't know about sports related bricks, but I do know someone that has a brick from George Washington's original birthplace home (Wakefield). It burned down over 200 years ago. One of their relatives picked it up during excavations there in the 1930s. |

John, was your brick part of a larger slab or section that you broke up by hand? That's an incredibly clean looking brick! Must not have been anywhere near the path of the wrecking ball. |

As I recall a portion was in the process of being demolished. We entered through the outfield somewhere and had pretty much the entire outfield wall for the taking. There were 3 or 4 of us. We boosted one guy up the wall and there he sat, thumping and beating on the wall "cap" (a ceramic-concrete-like-lid) that covered the top of the wall. Once that came loose, then we removed about 20 bricks, and loaded up the car. I kept the cap too |
