A number of these are offered. I assume they are simply ads reprinted on cardboard. Yes? |

One of the worst offenders on ebay for calling magazine pages "signs". I wouldn't trust anything this guy sells Max. I have turned him over to ebay numerous times for misleading auction titles and ebay has never done anything about it. I emailed the seller complaining about his practices and it's always gone ignored. He is the major reason I have petitioned ebay for a a search function to allow filtering of certain sellers that clog up the ebay listings. |

There was a 'barn-find' of some of these posters here near Louisville about 20 years ago. Literally thousands of these 11x17 and 8x11 posters printed on what I would call heavy paper-slightly lighter than normal posterboard paper. I purchased about 2000 of them and re-sold them to a large auction house around 1995 or so. Not sure about the one you picture but if it's olebbstuff or something like that, I'd be very concerned as I think much of the crap he/she sells is fake or re-printed. |

There was a find of high grade original early 1950s Red Man Chew mini posters featuring baseball stars and including a small ad for the Red Man cards. The posters/ads are full color, featuring Johnny Mize, etc. There are many reprints of these posters, but the reprints are usually simple to identify. The originals are on paper, while the standard reprint is on cardboard. |

If a poster or sign has been professionally reprinted, ala those tin signs, there are usually tons of the reprints around. This is because there is a big upfront cost to making lithographs, so one has to print many to lower the pr item cost. Thus, it's usually easy to determine if a particular item has been reprinted. If you have a sign and you can't find any reprints on the market, that doesn't prove yours is original, but it is a good sign. |
