Value of letters

I have two letters that I'd be curious as to their value. They were both sent to my grandfather in the 1920's. One is from Ty Cobb that discusses some clippings he had sent him. The other is from Judge Landis who responded to my grandfather's assertion that the trade deadline should be moved ahead. The "Czar" agreed with my grandfather's assertion that it created a competitive imbalance. I also have a scrapbook with baseball clippings from the 1915-1920 timeframe. The scrapbook includes some tobacco cards that are unfortunately glued onto the back cover. Those cards include Roger Bresnahan and Johnny Evers as well as others. Also have photographs of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and George Sisler taken during warm-ups at Tiget Stadium. Cool stuff, now curious what it may be worth.

Can you post some pictures of some of the items....the baseball cards can usually be removed from scrapbook paper if done very carefully - I don't recommend you do this without first learning how to do it right. A letter from Ty Cobb is probably in the $1,000 range...I would guess a letter from Landis is a little scarcer, but probably in the same range. Depending on what cards you have you could be looking at anywhere from $10/card to thousands if you have the right cards. Without pictures of the items though there is no way we could give you a fair estimate of value.

edited to add that snapshot type photos of Cobb and Ruth warming up are also very desirable and depending on how clear (focused) the photos are they can be in the hundreds of dollars each. Sisler would probably bring up to $50 for a nice clear shot.

If the letters are autographed, they both have good financial value, especially the Cobb. Autographed letters from Cobb are always in high demand by collectors.

The content of the letters is also important. The Cobb letter is incidental so most of the value is in the signature. The Landis letter discusses baseball which adds some cache. Some of the cards could be valuable, and could be identified for you if you are able to describe or picture them for us.

both letters/contracts and signed checks are getting popular in the hobby and are great investments - still low in price, but feel they will go for more money in the near future. I have see between 800.00-1200.00 for signed Cobb letters - really depends what the signature is on
