My grandfather played amateur ball. His name was also Joe Kirschner. I don't have any photos of him, but I do have a loving cup trophy from 1919 with my name on it - well, his name. It's sitting in my father's house, so next time I am over there I'll have to remember to take a pic. |

My great grandfather was the quarterback on the first Michigan State football team (late 1880s). My family has the team photo (photocopy) and I'll post it if I can find it. |

My father used to play punch ball with his friends on East 9th Street in Brooklyn...that's the best I can do. |

Don't worry Barry, I have to go back to the 19th century to find sports glory in my family. |

My uncle was a fantastic catcher in high school. In the mid forties, he received a letter from the Cleveland Indians asking him to come and try out. But since the pay for ball players was so low back then, he decided to get an electrical engineering degree. He spent 35 years working for Burlington Northern. He figured that in the long run, he'd make more with electrical circuits. He's a wonderful man, and had a wonderful wife and family. I guess he made the right decision. I wish he would have kept the invite letter. He tossed it. |

My dad was a walking baseball encyclopedia, but he couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. |

Vintage ballplayer relatives
Posted By: Silver King
My great great grandfather was Silver King (Charles Frederick Koenig). My grandmother was the granddaughter of Silver King and she lived with him for a couple years. She told me stories about him both good and bad. I've been trying to collect his memorabilia but I only know of a few cards and several team items. I was bidding on two items in REA but I got pounded on my bids and didn't win either. Here are two cabinet cards I have of him. I also own both poses of N172's. |
