Now that their advertising volume has plummeted (and presumably with it the easy revenues and fat times), the editorial staff seems to be working harder to bring forward articles of genuine use and interest to advanced collectors. The Lionel Carter series was fascinating, there is an interesting periodic column on autographs, Bob Lemke's catalogue update column is useful, and they even ran a boxing feature this week (after all, it is "sports" collectors digest, not baseball collectors digest). They still tend to run too many PR pieces pimping their grading services and larger advertisers, but I've seen genuine improvement. |
