OJ reprint that is almost too good to be true

Hey Folks,
Here is one of Runscott's reprints. I was elated to try to help in his endeavor (suggestions only-no real work) and this is the product that Scott developed. When I opened the professional looking box/pack they came in I immediately said "OH CRAP"....they look TOO good. So Scott and I spoke, and I agree now, that if anyone thinks these are real ones and buys them as such, then there is really not much help for them. They are oversized enough that there is almost (I just stuck "almost" in here) no way someone who has ever seen one would mistake it for a real one. When I put the front under a 4x magnifying glass you can not see the dot's that a lot of copies show. This is good. When I put it under a 15x loupe then you could definitely see them. There are none on real ones, obviously. I know this won't be the best thing to say but I must say that there will probably still be one/some of these that will try to be sold as a reprint in the future....but ya know what? There are already hundreds on there every year so why not at least try to do the right thing here? I think for the very small price (I told him they should be more, they are that good) these will be GREAT display pieces ....regards all

Why not just put "reprint" in small type in the bottom corner of the back?

Because its not hard to create a little paper loss where the small type reprint would be.Its been done before with other issues and people have sold the cards on ebay as real. If you notice theres a small R on the front of the picture,which is big enough so you can differ between one of his and a real one,even with a small scan......Great cards Scott,could you show one of the backs with the stats?

Personally, I would write in invisable ink who I sold the cards to-- 'I made this reprint and sold it as a reprint to Dr. Bond.' Down the road, you can prove who was naughty and who was nice.

and I have tried to make people comfortable with this project - in fact, I agree that many of the suggestions were fantastic, and I wouldn't have thought of them myself. But I won't be writing "reprint" on the back, changing the colors to "non-OJ" colors, or re-drawing the photos as cartoons - even then someone would argue that it might be sold as an "unknown issue". I want these to look real, and I'm making no attempt to hide that fact - but if I wanted these to be forgeries - ask Leon - I could do it, and I'm not.

As Leon pointed out, I am initially selling these at well below what was suggested by the "test market", and offering free samples, because I want board members to look at them and be okay with this. Several orders for sets and samples have been placed, and I will wait for opinions from the buyers before putting these up for sale "off the board". Details in "buy/sell/trade" thread.

What would be neat would to include a card or small sheet of paper, both saying how the original Old Judges were made (albumen photography) and how to tell the difference between an original and reprint. I think most buyers would find it interesting and useful.

in my original post I said these might still be sold as a "reprint" and what I meant was as "real ones"....my 6 yr. old daughter was tugging at me to go to soccer and I didn't proof it very well....sorry about that....regards all

That also sounds like a good idea for a VCBC article, but sounds familiar. There was a good OJ article in there recently, but I can't seem to find that issue.

I want to say THANKS to runscott for sending me a set of the reprints ... they are AWESOME!!

They are so crisp and clean and square and fresh and new ...

that just HOLDING them makes you DREAM of owning the REAL Old Judge cards in this MINT condition!!



And since the reprints are ALL Hall of Famers ...

the "real things" in MINT condition would be worth several hundred thousand dollars!!


These reprints are the CLOSEST THING to a "rare find" that I will probably ever come across ... since I think my grandparents' attic has already been cleaned out.

Your grandparents could move, in which case they might have a new attic, which would undoubtedly contain a bunch of "old" reprints, one of which your grandfather (perhaps your great-great-grandfather) would give you, retroactive to when you were nine years old. With that kind of provenance, the reprints may pay for the move!

That's the ticket!

I need to get Grandmomma to move OUT of that nursing home and into a house with a big dusty attic that has never been searched!!

Then I can sell reprints until the cows come home!
