is this site down ALL the time now........? With the popup ads and downtime, it's difficult to navigate anymore. I guess I'm so addicted to reading the messages that being down ALL weekend was a little frustrating. I know they moved to a new provider, etc.....but the uptime is becoming almost less than the downtime. Nothing against Eliot because he provided a new home for us but man, this thing is down a LOT.........or maybe it's my computer..........

I'm also frustrated by the problems of N54. I want to upgrade some features on this site, but I don't want to do it until it appears that they have their problems solved. Moving to another provider causes a big disruption, so I'm leery of that step.

I think we get overly frustrated, because we need our daily dose of vintage. In reality their down time record is actually pretty good, though February was a horrible month with it being totally down for a couple of days. If anybody has a quick solution please contact me.

It really hasn't been that bad for me guys...they did have some major issues a week or so ago when they were down for 2-3 days changing providers but otherwise not too bad....considering it's free..... When it's down I just do something constructive....... best regards

May I send you the $74.95 or however much it is to upgrade? The delays, pop-ups and network hassles are truly annoying. Runscott is correct in his assessment -- comparatively speaking, this site does not function in a reliable manner. Also, it would be nice, on occasion and for reference purposes, to have a search feature.

My personal experience with ISPs is that simply switching the information on this site to a faster or less encumbered server (i.e., upgrade) will fix many of the problems. In most cases, it's as simple as reassigning an IP address.

As I have mentioned to you previously, I do not believe an upgrade will solve this problem. If you notice when this site is down, almost 100% of the time the N54 homepage is also down. So, although you may be correct in generality, in specifity you are incorrect. Thank you for your offer.

Maybe they've got the homepage running off the same server as the Net54 forum???? Seriously though, most ISPs provide faster, more reliable servers and better Internet connectivity for those who pay more. I don't think there's anything secret or tricky or complicated about it.

Can you travel to Canada and help Elliot? If so, the money's all yours! If you need accommodations, I think Leon has an extra igloo you can rent during your stay. Canada's close to Alaska, isn't it?

We have 4 bedrooms we don't use....they are in the shape of an ice tray but besides that should be very comfortable.....and probably no colder than Dallas today....We southerners are literally iced in....I bet there wasn't more than 5%-10% of the folks going to work today and ALL schools in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area are closed......later

Over the last week all sites I routinely access were easy to access. On the other hand, Network 54 was either extremely slow, requiring multiple refreshes or down altogether, until two days ago. It has been fine for the last two days - similar response to other sites. This is very typical of Network 54 (from my experience).

No other site I frequently visit has the problems of this one. As for the popups, though, someone on this board once linked to a free popupstopper that I downloaded and find very effective. Coincidentally, I just received an e-mail from the company in this morning's mail. Some of you may want to check it out.

I visit many of the sites from my "vintage links" list, plus I usually do a little bit of research each day toward articles I'm working on - this means I might hit 10-20 different sites per day, and most of them are fine.

I signed up for the "free" pop-up stopper (mentioned in previous post), and it was fine--till it stopped being free. As soon as I shelled out my 29.95, HORRIBLE things started happening! "Pop-up Stopper" booted me off of this website numerous times, off of auction pages, continually raised little rectanges saying "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" etc.
Many,many times, I found myself back among my own ikons, rather than on a website. I do NOT recommend Pop-up Stopper. OR Pop-up Stopper Companion.

I don't know how you got the program. I'm pretty certain I found it through a link on this forum. I loaded it, and have never paid a penny. I do not know if you purchased a different version, but again, mine has always been free and has worked without any problems. Is see from the link I posted today that thye have a variety of programs, but they still offer the free version.
