Default Photo question - positive film?

I've been trying to figure out Type I, II, III, IV photographs in terms of how the hobby deals with identifying and collecting them.

And then I stumbled upon something new to me. Supposedly this is a "positive film" - not knowing tons about photography, I had really only been exposed (hah) to the regular "negative film."

Would this be something mass produced, say for slide use? Or could it be something more original, to develop prints from? To make things more confusing, this is a Japanese film, which probably has different practices than here in the States. Anyway, this is Cash and Oh in '62.

These are often called "transparencies" and were made for print publications to use. They came into widespread commercial use in the 1960s and were replaced by the 35 mm slide over time. Photos can be printed from them. I had hundreds of them from an entertainment public relations archive that I picked when I was in college. Sold them all over time.

Hope this helps.
