Default Dan mabey 1961-1963 post baseball book interest?

Hi Guys -- Dan Mabey Here. The following is an announcement and somewhat stupid question.

ANNOUNCEMENT: I have completed reconstruction of the Post cereal baseball card monographs covering the 1961 U.S., 1962 Canadian, and 1963 U.S. promotions. CARDBOARD, CRUNCH, MILK & SCISSORS - THE FINAL CUT on the 1961 set is 125 pages. POSTAGE DUE on the 1963 set is 84 pages. NORTHERN EXPOSURE on the 1962 Canadian set is 71 pages (including 23 color pages). I am getting ready to take the mats to a local print and graphics shop. I do not have a price estimate yet.

STUPID QUESTION: Can you give me a sense of how many copies I should produce? In other words, are you still inclined to purchase the books? I am NOT expecting a commitment, especially since you have no prices. I'm just trying to figure out how much of my hard earned/retirement cash I need to lay out to have the monographs printed and bound.

Yeah, it's a stupid question. But if you can, humor me. KEEP ME POSTED!

Dan

Default For me

For me it kind of depends on what is in these books thats NOT on the OldCardboard website. I don’t need to see pictures. I do need relative rarity figures and maybe recent price data as well as variation information and relative rarities. This would determine if it was worth buying as a reference. Personally I have no need or interest in a book about the history of the issues unless it directly impacts scarcity of a card or cards. Congratulations on your project…. please keep us posted on the price for the books or at least a range…$30? $75? $125? More? Thanks….. Rocky

Hi Dan
I am sure there will be some interest though it's outside of my collecting era, generally speaking.
If you haven't looked into the print on demand option, it might be something to consider. Good luck!

I have always had a sweet spot for the the 1961 to 1963 run of Post baseball cards. I would be intrigued by a couple of these, leaving the 1962 Canadian manuscript to verifiable card-carrying Canadians.

I would be interested in a copy. You might want to "post" this in the "post"-war forum as well.

Default Dan Mabey's Books

This is great news. I highly recommend these books for anyone interested in the Post Cereal sets from 1961-63. I have the originals and they are a fountain of information on these sets. I couldn't have finished my master sets without these books.

Default Just the best

Dan’s books are absolutely to top notch. There are an awful lot of us who know what we know about the various Post Cereal promotions because of Dan‘s research, and the publication of these books. So very highly recommended!

Hello Dan.

I hope all is well with you!

I am very interested in the 1961 and 1963 books for the US cards. Barring some unforeseen circumstances, I will be trying to buy those two books as soon as they are available.

Default Hi Dan

I purchased the recently rereleased 62 Post edition and as long as not prohibitively expensive, am definitely interested in the others.

Default More Post Cereal

Also, if there are any Post Cereal Football collectors out there, Ken Marks has written an awesome book on the 1962 Football set.

I'd like to reiterate what others are saying. If you have any interest in the Post cereal cards, these books are essential.

Dan, I have all the books in the rereleased 2016 versions. Have there been any major changes in this version of the books?

Hi Everybody! Thanks for the fast and kind replies regarding the books. If you previously purchased any of the 4 books, I see no reason to buy these newer versions. So, you can save your hard earned hobby money and work on a PSA 9 set of 1962 JELL-O baseball cards.

I haven't got a time line yet for pricing and distributing the books. I am having surgery this upcoming week. As some of you know, it's anybody's guess what will happen when you have a procedure and you begin the recovery process. The doctor says it shouldn't be too long to be somewhat mobile after the surgery, but it all depends ...

Thanks again for your hobby friendship and encouragement. Here's hoping you will find that elusive 1961 Post cereal box panel with Eddie Mathews!

Dan, I would definitely be interested. What's a thread without a photo. I personally cut this card off the box in 1963, but as an 11 year old I wasn't very good with the scissors, and it does show a lot of love.

I would be interested buying a set of books. I have the SF Giants 1961-63 Post Cereal cards and 49ers from 1962, including the Grapenuts cards. I still remember the Paul Hornung Post Cereal commercials on television and forcing my poor parents to buy the cereal for the Paul Hornung card.

Wishing you a full recovery, Dan! I've been deriving delight from your 1962 Canadian Baseball and 1963 CFL booklets for over 25 years.

Your Canadian friend,

Vay

Default Dan Mabey Post 1961-63 Baseball Promotion Books At Printer

Hello Fellow POSTulates.

I'm happy to announce that books covering the 1961 and 1963 Post baseball U.S. promotion and 1962 Canadian Post baseball promotion are finally being reissued. The print shop estimates the job will be done on 7 November.

Based on the printer's price quote, I am estimating that the books will run $30-$50 each. Each will have a color plasticized cover and be bound in a plastic claw spiral. Cardboard, Crunch, Milk & Scissors (CCM&S) -- 1961 Post is 126 black and white (B&W) pages. Postage Due -- 1963 Post is 84 B&W pages. Northern Exposure -- 1962 Post Canadian is 23 color and 48 B&W pages.

Having lost all of the digital masters for the books in moving from South Carolina to California, I have re-created the monographs and actually made some minor additions. The books will be generated using paper mats and using a new print shop. The quoted price necessitates restricting CCM&S and Postage Due to twenty (20) copies. Due to the cost of color pages, Northern Exposure will be limited to ten (10) copies.

The foregoing announcement is simply a "heads up" to my valued and patient fellow Post baseball card friends. No need to respond, and I will be sending out a notice once the reprinted books are in my hands. In the interim, my only request is that you take time to vote in your local and general elections. Blessings to each of you and don't hesitate to KEEPMEPOSTED!

Default Print on Demand

As mentioned by Leon in an earlier post, do ask your printer about print on Demand options. The last thing you want is boxes of unsold books in your garage, gathering dust.
Peace and good luck!

Yay!

In case you missed it, there's been a bit of recent discussion on Post cards in this thread:
