Default Ebay Seller Offers

Is anyone getting "seller offers" on ebay, on items that you're not watching?

Lately, I've started to receive multiple seller offers on items I've simply looked at, and immediately rejected; i.e., a 1955 Topps Koufax that is the grade I'm looking for, at a decent price; but after looking at, have determined the centering is off, or it has print problems, or too many creases.

I look at the item for perhaps 20-30 seconds, and don't add it to my watch list. But then, I start getting seller offers for it, clogging up my home page.

I don’t like it but it likely does lead to some amount of more sales through their site. It doesn’t make sense for most of us, and I do find it irritating, but it does make sense for them. Sure, some folks may leave the platform but such an irritant isn’t enough to drive many people away.

When an eBay seller sends you an offer to buy his card at an obscene price, but it is not based on you adding the card to your watch list, but merely because you took a second to view the listing.

There is a bear up 1950 Bowman Stengel on eBay that the guy listed at $19 it’s trimmed, written on, paper loss. Seller is accepting offers. I offered $12. Guy rejected it. I offered $15, Guy rejected it. What was the seller expecting?

Roger that, been happening to me for some time now. It is not only cards that the offers come from. Happen with my other hobbies as well.

Sometime it becomes worth it, most time it is a delete and move on.....again.

Yep I get offers from items I just looked at and do not have an interest in. Example..Levi's that are the wrong size. People who pay more monthly have the ability to send offers to lookers not just watchers. I have noticed that ebay let's me send offers out when there are no watchers on certain items. As nice as concierge is they have conflicting answers about this subject

Default me too

Im getting offers to buy at 10% off a crazy high price just from a brief look. Dont even bother to click "NO" because that might give a hint of interest. Along the lines of offers, I have had many back and forths with offers (and an explanation) from me at half or even less the BIN price with successful deals..... but also a few like the time I offered $300 on an overpriced item for $600...... and the counter came back at $599 ( from apparently a fellow Net54 guy!!! ). Guess that was his way of telling me where to go LOL

If someone lists an item for an amount that is truly twice it’s market value, in my experience it’s just better to ignore the item and not put yourself through the charade of attempting to get the person to a reasonable price.

But like I said..... especially if the item has run a while with multiple relistings..... Ive bought a bunch of items at 50% or less. But I agree..... you get a lot of HELL NOS for every YES.... I stay polite and respectful, it helps IMO... even if the deal doesnt go through, I can be at peace with my own self. Hate to get into pissing contests over baseball cards but it can happen.

Rocky, what were the listed prices of the 2 items? Were they $10 items you tried to get $5 off or $1000 you tried to get $500 off?

Default Offers

$120 including postage ….. success at $60 delivered. $125 plus postage ( been up forever) offered $50 plus postage (NO WAY). I think it’s always worth reaching out in a polite manner but sometimes the price is firm and that’s that. No hard feelings. Enjoy the hobby everyone! Rocky

I get seller offers on things I've just looked at now. But as a seller I can't send offers on some of the items I'd like to send offers on. Ebay is ridiculous.

And now, as of Mid-August they're dropping American Express as an accepted form of payment. That will be a massive hit to my Delta miles and status unless I can find a work around.

All I would kindly ask of buyers who make offers when no OBO is featured: read the description before doing this. If the seller makes it incredibly clear they don't want to hear your lower offers, then be respectful of that.

Many times I will do the same. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Heh, that is one of my pet peeves, besides other people in general. One particularly obnoxious wannabe playa asked for my “best” on an item and that I should “lmkoninsta” which I had to think about for a minute while I translated it from Douchebag to English. I had a BIN on the item anyway but playa’s 30% offer got automatically rejected, hence the message.

Thanks for the actual laugh! That dictionary needs to exist, NOW!

It's my hugest peeve as a seller. I get so fed up with "what is your BEST price?". You're seeing it, buddy, hence no OBO--and you already know this, so go make offers on things with OBO attached. And if somebody even tries to drop the non-word "comps" into the equation, the conversation is over. I'm selling things that offer little-to-nothing in the way of recent comparables by which to compare prices. Go have a playdate with 130point and your rainbow of parallel refractors.

I've said it so many times. I really wish prices had always been non-negotiable in this industry. This isn't some street market in Bangladesh where you buy your counterfeit Jordache. If I went into nearly any other type of North American business and tried to negotiate a cheaper price, the response would rightfully be laughter or anger. All this negotiation in the collectibles realm just keeps non-hobbyists thinking of the industry as a pathetic flea market. I'm certain that it plays a huge element in preventing the industry from ever being taken seriously by ignorant outsiders: "No, seriously! What do you do for a living?".

All of this playfully snide talk is from the vantage point of hypocrisy, as I have naturally negotiated during the course of transactions, and am furthermore made a hypocrite in that I prefer to negotiate as a buyer rather than a seller!

I must be completely bereft of the douchebag gene, because I’ve spent waaaaay more then a minute trying to decipher that term, and I’m still at a complete loss for what it means.

Depending on what the first letter actually is, it either says, "Let Me Know on Insta(gram)," or less possibly, "I'm 'K' on Insta(gram)."

Ahhh, thanks for explaining LOL! Makes sense now.

I had a feeling it might have something to do with Instagram, but couldn't quite piece it together.

I've occasionally gotten messages like that to. Buyers on Ebay wanting me to contact them on "Insta". I ignore them.

Just lowball me on Ebay and be done with it. Don't send me on a quest to go find you somewhere else, so you can low-ball me there instead.

I have randomly been getting them for easily a year on stuff I am not watching. Same goes when selling. Randomly they let me send offers to people not watching the item.

I send offer on things that do not have the make an offer option regularly. I only do it on things we are close to on price and it is my only offer as I hate negotiating. I have around 75% of those offers accepted. When sending offers I have close to a 50% acceptance rate when selling. I have found to only send offers on Thursday through Saturday. For me they never get accepted if sent Sunday through Wednesday as a seller.

I purchased a low grade 64 Spahn today off eBay. Worth around 15 and I only had to pay 25. I consider that a victory for an eBay purchase.

It's fleabay's site and they track whatever (clicks to view items, in this case) and use the data to promote sales that will increase their bottom line.

It'd be nice if fleabay provided the ability to opt out of receiving these types of emails, but they probably don't care what their community feels about it because they have a captive audience.

Yes, the emails are annoying.
