Does anyone know anything about Isabelle Payne from the 1930s/40s.
She appears on two Wheaties boxes in 1939 but I can't find any info about her career as a basketball coach when I google her. |

started a search on newspapers.com and if I am guessing correctly Isabelle Payne (is she standing on the right?) then she is from Kirksville Missouri. She started playing with a professional barnstorming team in 1931, the St Louis All Star" club. Played at least 5 years with that team. Per The Daily News and Intelligencer (Mexico Missouri) (Feb 9, 1940) playing for the 'Helen Stephens' Olympic Coeds' after have played 5 years with the St Louis All Stars and four years as coach at the Joplin Business College Team and as the manager of a team for the Grover Cleveland Alexander'

From several news stories she played on several teams in the early 30's which lines up perfectly with the Wheaties creation date. As for coaching, I saw a copy of the Franklin County Tribune of Union, Missouri dated Nov. 17, 1939 that had her coaching the "Helen Steven's Olympic Co-eds" which seemed to be a barnstorming team.
https://www.newspapers.com/article/f...ibune/7158097/ Interestingly, Isabelle Payne married one season minor leaguer (1935 Springfield Senators) and House of David player Emory "Ham" Olive in 1942. They both lived in Eau Claire where Emory was regionally famous as a local umpire for decades there. As a local legend he had a large obit dedication in the local paper on his death in 1982, but I do not have a membership to snip it. https://newspaperarchive.com/eau-cla...-01-1982-p-11/
