Just stumbled upon an ebay listing from Sport Grails for a 1952 Bowman Musial. PSA # 28489707. The PSA sticker in the ebay listing lists a grade of NM 7. A mere cursory glance at the ad's photo raised red flags, so I checked the PSA database and--SURPRISE--they're clearly two different cards.

As a former collector who's been out of the card hobby for decades, here's my question: how common are these scams? I'd like to delve back into the hobby, but...well, this stuff just makes me ill.

Would love to hear what anyone has to say. Trying to learn. Thank you!

Well, could be a couple different issues:
1) Real card in a counterfeit slab.
2) Counterfeit card in a counterfeit slab.
3) Original card and flip removed from PSA holder and used to put an inferior card in a new counterfeit slab and re-grade the original card.
4) Every once in a while, PSA got two of the same card during an order and gave them the SAME cert number.

At least with eBay Authenticity Guarantee, if you meet the requirements, the card will be sent back to PSA to verify that the slab is authentic and the seals are still intact. If not, PSA will notify eBay to cancel the sale.

I see the same card in the Sport Grails ebay listing and the image you can find on PSA from a previous sale in 2018. Wax stain on back matches perfectly, centering on front matches, I don't see any differences. It's good to be cautious, but I'm not seeing any issue with this particular card.
