October 1, 1920: Cubs’ Pete Alexander outduels Cardinals rookie Jesse Haines in 17 innings

Check out Gregory H. Wolf's wonderful SABR article detailing the game.

Box Score is here.

Rogers Hornsby went 4-8.

1920...

On October 10, six years later, Ol' Pete got the save, helping Jesse to win game 7 of that 1926 World Series, the Cardinals' first Championship.

On with a tip of the cap to Leon's quarter, here's an 1847 quarter.

Thanks for posting that article, Michael.
