So I just broke open a 1999 factory set, and as I was sorting, I discovered a small number of cards on which the reverse is, well, reversed. On a normal card, the card number on the back should be oriented such that it is in the upper left corner of the card when looking at it from the front. On these, it is oriented such that it is located at the bottom right corner when looking from the front. I had a set back in the day, and don't recall these. Also, I've done a quick search and can't find any evidence these were corrected or even noted as UERs in any guides.
The cards are: #13 - Edgardo Alfonzo #34 - Nolan Ryan #62 - Vladimir Guerrero #84 - Mike Caruso #85 - Derek Jeter #95 - Pedro Martinez #96 - Greg Vaughn #143 - Dan Wilson #174 - Scott Erickson Are these know uncorrected errors? Are they unknown? Were they ever corrected? Any information would be appreciated. Thansk! |

I haven’t heard of this before. I picked up a 1999 factory set at a show last month I haven’t got around to opening. I’ll crack it open and check these cards, if no one else does first, this week and see if mine are the same way as yours are or if you got an odd one. Stuff like this has no value in modern but I think printing mistakes are always fun to collect.

This happens every once in a while to a lot of different sets. More likely, because of the way sheets are laid out, it creates wrong backs. Since you can't really depict it in a single photograph, most error/variation collectors don't seem to collect them. You really have to convince someone it's worth more in order to sell it.

Those particular cards are printed that way in 1999 Topps, it’s just bad design QC, not a printing mistake or error. I guess if you really wanted you could call it an UER, but as most of Topps modern sets seem to have some of this, I do not.
Even the 22 set has some flipped backs. The only person I have seen get into the minutiae of these modern sets is Lifetime Topps Project, if you have modern quirk questions he usually has a notation on it. https://lifetimetopps.wordpress.com/
