1920s Babe Ruth Mutoscope Reel Photo
Mutoscopes had a circular drum with photos attached that worked like a giant flip book. The reels were composed of hundreds of photos, each making a 'frame' in the movie when you turn the crank. What I have here is a photo from a Mutoscope reel that shows Babe Ruth training with Artie McGovern on the roof of McGovern's gym in NYC. Gehrig also trained with McGovern. These reel photos are rarely seen. Goldin offered a full machine for sale in 2015:
