I'm curious to know if anyone can offer comments or opinion on this photo of Eddie Plank. I'm told it is a Type 1. It measures approx 11 by 14. I've done some searching and have not seen this pose anywhere. Thanks.

It appears to have silvering at the bottom of the front, which is constant with it being vintage. Silvering, which is like a silver patina in the dark areas, is very strong evidence of old age, as it only appears after decades. If the image is sharp and clear, it seem consistent with it being original.
In short, just looking at those two small images, it appears consistent with being original. Last edited by drcy; 12-05-2015 at 12:54 PM. |

I'd guess it's old (c. 1920s-30s) but not a Type I. 11x14 is a bit too standard of a size for me to be comfortable with the age that photo is supposed to be if it was of the period it's supposed to be from, along with the general condition it presents as.
Very hard to tell definitively from those photos though. |

If it has silvering in the dark areas-- where a silvery patina gets lighter and darker as you change the angle of the surface to a light source-- then it appears to be original.

Dusting off an old post...
I'm now interested in selling this photo. If I was to consign it to an auction house, should I ship just the photo without the frame or send it all? In the frame, it measures about 23 x 20. |

Agree. Typically Type I’s aren’t found in 11x14 size. Typically...

I agree I think it is type 2 also.
Still a great photo and looks good in the frame However, if sending to an AH better off not in the frame. The frame does not add value to something vintage like that.

My experience over the course of the last year suggests that in nearly all cases putting a photo in a PSA case seems to enhance it’s desirability and value. Sometimes dramatically. People just seem to like the way they look.
