FS: Type 1 photo with John McGraw and Heywood Broun, taken at the Baseball Writers Association annual dinner at the Commodore Hotel, NYC on February 5, 1933. McGraw was the featured guest in 1933, being recognized for his lifetime achievements in baseball. He is holding his plaque in the photo. Of just as much interest in the photo is Heywood Broun (seated at table, smoking): sportswriter, humorist, member of the Algonquin Round Table, co-founder of the American Newspaper Guild, and social crusader. It was on this night that Broun gave a speech that is often cited in the timeline of events leading to the integration of baseball. Also seen next to McGraw is another well-know journalist, Bugs Baer.
