I have about 200 cards between $500 and $25,000 in old psa holders... I might part way with a few of these cards in the next couple of years, do you think it's worth paying the extra $2000-$3000 to get these cards "upgraded" before selling them??? Thanks for you valuable advice!!!

In my opinion, the answer is no. You risk too much to have any of these cards put in "new" PSA holders. More specifically, I believe you risk a DOWNGRADE of the card by PSA graders. Are you assuming that PSA will give any one of your cards the same grade that it currently possesses? Too risky. You must factor in the human element here. I hope this guides you a bit. Peace.

reholdered yes but not till right before you sell them in case they change to something newer and better(LOL) between now and when you sell. If they upgrade(LOL) in between it would make reholdering now completely worthless, well except to PSA.

If you reholder them by the time you get them back they may have a new holder. No way I would do it. I like my cards in psa cases but don’t care which flip is in the top. Old or new I still buy them.

Thanks for all the feedback guys... YES... just a reholder... I was under the impression that I would get the same exact grade currently on existing holder unless the card or holder was damaged in some way. Am I wrong in this assumption??? Can they change the grade if I'm just doing a reholder? PSA starts to charge $35/card for reholder if it's above $5k in value.

If their opinion about their previous opinion is that they got it wrong the first time, shouldn't ethics dictate that they change it?

I sent in a bunch of what, at the time, were my best cards a few years ago for a reholder. On the return shipment USPS delivered them to the wrong address. I spent an agonizing 24hrs waiting for them to correct the mistake. I won’t do that again. I’d rather fly them to the National and do it in person.

The EX 5 Cobb looks like it has a slip from before the days of plus grades? Anyone know that off hand?

I find the newer holders much more visually appealing. That being said, it's frustrating as a consumer to see PSA changing the holders to create a new revenue stream from reholdering fees

I'm curious too.... If someone buys a PSA 5 card, sends it in to be re-holdered only, and PSA downgrades it to a 4, does that fall under their "guarantee"? Would they owe the submitter the difference between a 5 and 4 grade? Because, they would be admitting they got it wrong the first time....

I know everyone says new holders sell better, but remember a reholder you have the same cert# so anyone who is doing their homework is going to know it's an old grade. Frankly I have had a huge collection of mixed PSA broken up over my last several auctions even so far back as the old dot matrix flips and I haven't seen a massive prejudice against older holders when it comes to the money people were willing to spend.

I would 100 percent not reholder unless the slabs are damaged.

I think at first the cards that i saw in the new holders seemed to be much tougher grades (most noticeable on T3’s i was watching). But lately it doesnt seem to be as much difference in toughness, and i dont see a performance difference at auction. Perhaps it has a lot to do with people reholdering?? |

No, definitely not. Very costly. Risk of further damage. Also, doesn't the reslabbed card keep the same old registration #? If so, experienced buyers will know it came from an old slab.

If you are stinking rich and don't mind waiting two years to get your cards back, then go for it.
