Hello
I have some signed baseball cards in a psa slabbed that is like to display on my wall in a psa card frame. Most of my cards are signed in ballpoint pen but some also signed in blue sharpie. In your opinion will my cards fade if I display them? ( do vintage signed cards signed in ballpoint fade if displayed? Are vintage signed cards in sharpie a better or worse option for display?) thank you in advance for your help, opinions and advice on this. |

All of my sharpie cards are ok. (60's). One has faded. Ink signatures seem fine. I would worry more about the card itself fading. I had a display of White Sox cards (90's) that have washed out. They had been in heavy sunlight when I got them. So, direct sunlight is a huge no,no.

Thank you! Would you say it’s preferred to have ballpoint pen signed cards Vs sharpie signed cards for display if I have a choice between the two? Would be kept in basement with no direct sun light.

I much prefer a medium to thin sharpie on cards. Ball point pens are hard to see on some cards. Your taste may also depend on the colors and busyness of the card. Black, blue (I even like red sometimes).

Virtually anything can fade when subject to direct sunlight. Certainly some things are more susceptible than others, but i would be cautious with anything this is valuable/not replaceable.
Depending on how you are deplaying them, you could do as i have done and created a high res copy of the original. I frame and mat them and keep the original in a safe deposit box. Below, i have some examples of what I did. The johnson check is slabbed, but i scanned and printed a copy to frame. I did the same with the Young 3x 5. Now i dont have to worry about fading and can display whatever i want. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
