Default Almost "ALL" auction houses are charging state tax now

Almost "ALL" auction houses are charging state tax now... which means I won't be buying as much.

I am thinking to rent an apartment at those tax free states just to receive packages.

Almost all internet purchases are getting taxed. It hurts the pocketbook a little but it will help even the retail playing field at least a little bit. I just factor in another 10% for tax when buying now. (it is actually 8.25% but 10% is easier to calculate.) And it has curtailed a few hobby purchases, for me, but not too many. Maybe if a card is on the cusp of being a good deal, and with the tax it isn't, would be the times I didn't buy because of it. Gotta get used to it.

Looking at my REA invoice, I see that they charged me 7.8% for sales tax. But for Arizona, the state sales tax rate is "only" 5.6%.

It looks like they're also adding in my city (1.5%) and county (0.7%) rates as well to get to the lofty 7.8% rate. Say what!!!

I didn't expect that at all! eBay is "only" charging me the 5.6% Arizona rate. What am I missing here?? Why the different methodologies?

Different software probably. What is the state, county and municipal law there? I'd wager you have to self-report anything not picked up by the county or city.

They're all over the board, and are admittedly confused themselves.

For example, Hunt was charging me a good 3.5% less than REA. REA took time to research it, and said that there were indeed county and municipal taxes involved in addition to state taxes. They did provide me a slight adjustment, and ended up slightly higher than Hunts, but less than eBay.

So for now it's a bit of a cluster f**k.

Ted - did you have to request the refund? or did REA voluntarily refund you?

I had the same issue and REA sent me the difference via paypal without me even asking for the overpayment of sales tax.
