I have twice submitted r315 cards to SGC which came back as trimmed. See images. These cards were issued in vertical strips of 3 cards. These are typically graded with numerical grades. Any reason why these would not grade? The severely miscut Bengough that was graded a 2.5 is about one-eighth of an inch shorter than the other two.

lol Yes to say that R315's have evidence of trimming on top and bottom is not a reason to refuse to holder them. But clearly all the TPG'S seem to have trouble finding and keeping graders with enough knowledge of baseball cards. This is a clear example of that.
I would send back to SGC with a few pics of R315 strips and ask them to not only grade them but refund your shipping costs....Good luck |

About all I can offer in the way of possible explanation is that the two rejected cards show uneven or hand cuts, whereas the slabbed card does not, to my eyes anyway.

They are all hand cut since they were issued on strips and should carry a "W" designation.
As far as numerically numbering any kind of strip card just makes no sense. All should be Authentic only but it was a way for the TPG companies to make more money. Dan Mckee |

Do we know the manner in which R315s were distributed? I see where they are often found in three-card strips, but can it be said with high probability that this was the way they made it to the end consumer, and this was the only way? Seems to me that much more often than not these are found with straight and not wavy edges. One might guess that if the only way these were obtained was in strips then they would be mostly hand-cut if not butchered by collectors ala the strip cards of the early 1920s.

R315's come in black and white and with a yellow Tint. And although they came in strips of 3 retailer's could have cut them to make them easier to display and sell. Their large size almost necessitates use of adult scissors vs the smaller strip cards.

They were also apparently at least printed in horizontal strips.
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=116649 Here is one of mine, which looks trimmed on the sides, i.e. vertical edges, as if cut from a horizontal strip or sheet: ![]()

I think they were issued in strips, most likely. In addition to the 3 card strips there are also a few 5 card horizontal ones around. To me they should all get a number as long as there is any border and they should all get the Hand Cut designation. That is until I see further proof they weren't issued in strips.
