R.I.P. Lenny Green
Lenny Green and I shared birthdays, January 6tn.
He passed away on his 86th, my 63rd. Lenny had, perhaps, his best season - statistically the year I was born - 1956 ...and he had that great season playing for my hometown team, the Columbus (GA) Redbirds. I truly regret the great mistreatment he must have been exposed to, and that those experiences no doubt kept him from enjoying that season. Bob Gibson played for the team the following year and I'm sure he had the same impression of my community and the folks that inhabited it in those days. =
