Super tiny on my screen, but my gut says Bresnahan in the middle.

I watched that movie last night with the family. I talked it up so much because I loved it as a kid. Boy, did it NOT hold up. The family was bored to tears.

My kids love it. Wife hates it. She allows me one watch per Christmas. She did get me a huge leg lamp one year about 10 years ago. Sits atop our bar.

I guess I sound like the Grinch. I think I'll go watch A Charlie Brown Christmas. Now that one still holds up, at least for me. Last edited by Sean; 12-23-2017 at 03:46 PM. |

I've had quite a few family nights with the movies I watched as a kid in the 80s. I think The Princess Bride, The Sandlot, and Goonies still stand up well. I'm missing a few. Gremlins and Beetljuice do not. Cheesy effects are glaring.

All of the times that I've watched A Christmas Story & I never noticed those cards on Ralphie's headboard...
![]() I'm a sucker for that movie, mostly because it's based on the childhood memories of Jean Shepherd, who grew up in my hometown of Hammond, IN.

My wife and I discovered it about 25 years ago and watch it every year during the Holidays. Love it!
Kids couldn't care less. Good call on the baseball cards above his head. Never knew what those were. jeff |

As the movie was supposed to take place in the 40s, can we conclude that Ralphie was into both raw modern and vintage?

Well, at least it seems Ralphie loves pre-war vintage baseball cards. Hey, they won't shoot his eye out!

In the hundreds of times I’d watched the movie, I never noticed this. About a week ago it was brought up on twitter and then Beckett had a post on it. I love when we can find cards in pop culture.

Interesting (to me anyway) tie in with a baseball movie and A Christmas Story.
Darren McGavin played both Ralphie's father in A Christmas Story and Gus Sands the shady gambler in The Natural. What is interesting is how a controversy surrounding his work in The Natural led to his getting the role in A Christmas Story. Before shooting began on The Natural, there was a big brouhaha regarding billing for the film. It was pretty much an all star cast and agents were fighting over who would go where. McGavin came to the project a bit late and was told that his billing would have to be well below where it would normally be. He made a big stink and told them not to credit him at all. This led to a bunch of Hollywood insider publicity for McGavin, who parlayed the notoriety from the controversy into a starting role in the interesting little project that was at the time making the rounds at the various studios. A Christmas Story. |

I assume the T206 cards were his dad's. The 1940 time traveling Play Ball inclusion is forever a mystery as the movie looks set in 1939.
