My disdain for the grading system and some collector's willingness to pay big bucks for holders instead of cards is well documented. I thought it may be fun to show equally graded cards side by side that aren't quite so equal. Here are 2 SGC 40s. The one on the left is actually a nice card that presents like a 40 should. On the right is my 40. There is no paper loss on back. The back is clean. A hidden crease is the cause. The fact that these 2 cards would carry the same grade is precisely my problem with the system. Even if we are judging by technical grade rather than presentation, it cannot be said that these cards are technically the same either! Do 4 rounded corners, sub-par centering, and surface wear somehow reduce the grade the same as a hidden crease? Show us some more disperate card grades!
