Default 1921 Exhibits Geo. H. "Babe" Ruth

Hey Fellas:
Not sure how many people are going to The National in NJ. But I will be bringing my Ruth exhibit card to the show to get graded and sell. After seeing some previous examples that had mold on them grade a 4 and another with water stains grade a 3.5, I dont want to assume, but I am very comfortable saying that this one should grade AT LEAST a 5.5 or 6. I believe 6 would be the highest ever grade and I am fairly confident it should garner and deserve that grade.
Pricing will obviously depend on grade-however if it does come back a 6 ; I am going to be very firm and ask around $9-$10k...if thats not in your wheelhouse, then thats perfectly fine, no harm no foul.
If anyone is interested please send me an email and we can get in touch before and after to work something out.

Thanks

Default Juss bein' nosey but

..if I understand your post , you are having immediate on-site PSA grading of a card with a declared value of nine thousand ?
..any ballpark rough estimate of what PSA might charge for a service like that ?
..good luck with it...
.could you please share a pre-slabbed scan with us if you get the chance ? ; that's an awesome card.

..Thanks

..

Yes, I am not sending the card off. I am going to get an on site encapsulation and grading service done at the show.

If the card does grade a PSA 6 (which I believe would be the highest graded specimen out there) then yes, I am putting an immediate value on the card. This is a "what if" scenario but I am very comfortable and confident in it.

I'm not really trying to get ahead of myself. Just going off of comparables. If one with mold spots can grade a PSA 4 lol, then this should be at least a 6.

Not really looking for critics on this one.

I respect each person's individual opinion and right to have one. But if you have anything negative to say or you are not interested then please do not judge or throw your "2 cents in".

I also do retract one of my previous statements. I did find a PSA 6 (but it does have significant paper loss)

I have shown images of both the PSA 4 with mold spots
And also a PSA 6 with 2 spots of paper loss

Who knows, I guess we will see tomorrow!

Don't know why the spotting on this card seems so much more prominent than other 1921 Exhibits. I have three White Sox from 21 and they have none of browning seen on many Ruth cards.

Good luck with the grading, from my experience new submitters don't usually far well. Also that 4 is really weak, here is mine which I felt should have graded higher-

This is a beautiful card but I concur with that. Old grades and new grades are apples and oranges.
I'm thinking a 3.5, and no higher than 5

Default Good luck

Kinda tough to get a good visual fix on top corners. Is back honestly clean? Seems a minor tad of yellowing around perimeter and light stain smudge middle left side, but not sure. Good luck - keep your fingers crossed for a "5" - not out of the question. You gotta play the game to get the reward - a "5" would be super cool and maybe turn into a cornerstone card for your collection.

Is that with any grading company or is PSA what you are referring to?

Based on his first post, I assume he is somewhat disappointed with that grade?

He texted me at the National and was very bummed on the grade. I am not surprised. Very nice guy, but admittedly wasn't a card guy and didn't have much experience with grading.

Pretty much any of them, I know my first PSA submission 10 years ago I though I would do great but was shocked at the grades, after a couple more subs you learn what to start looking for. Using things like a 10x loupe, black light, high res scans, etc can make a huge difference. It's still just a gamble but you get a lot smarter, most of my subs there days I am just looking for a hit or two to pay for the sub. I like my odds when I send in 20+ cards and only need one hit.

+1 there. I certainly wouldn't trade my PSA VG for it, which is clean.
