I bought a picture pack on eBay that included a few players and poses I had not yet seen (including Luis Alcaraz who only played for the Dodgers in 1967 and 1968; Jim Mudcat Grant and Paul Popovich who played for the Dodgers in 1968). Also included is this player and for the life of me I can't read the name. I spent some time (too much?) trying to figure out who the player is by checking all of the Dodger rosters from 58-69. Could this be Jim Baxes (see the scan of his 59 Topps card)? The glasses look to be the same, but I am not sure that the faces match. If it is Jim Baxes, is there anyway that is what is says on the picture. Thanks for any help.

I think that's Jim Baxes.I went on Google images and there is a photo of him that looks close to the person in your photo. Not sure what's written on the bottom of your photo.

I remember all of my friends and I getting this card in the summer of '75 and wondering, "Who the heck is that?? What's a Zoilo???"

Zoilo it is. I think he must have stolen (or borrowed) Baxes' glasses. Appreciate the help.
Curt - I will check out your photo bucket. I started buying the photo packs because I am a Koufax collector. Now I enjoy buying them and trying to figure out what year/etc. The one I bought on ebay had 29 photos, clearly from different time periods as there were different fonts, etc. If you are interested in seeing all 29, let me know (pm is fine) and I will try to scan them and email them to you. Mike,
I probably have most of them, but not all obviously. I kind hogged those photo packs for a while and must have 30+ sets and partial sets. Obviously this created a mammoth amount of dupes, but helped me spot slight variations too. i have kept them grouped as I got them in hopes of being able to date them, but have not spent the time to cross reference who is in the sets and who isn't to narrow down the years. If you see any in your group that you don't mind parting with that I don't have, let me know. Thanks. |

Is it just me, or is there a Colin Powell resemblance there?
