I am planning on selling this jersey signed by Frank Robinson, but before I listed it I wanted some reassurance of its authenticity. I am pretty certain that it is real, but I don't know as much as you guys about autos. Also, what do you think is a fair price since it doesn't come with a PSA/DNA cert?photo 1(1).jpg

I agree with taz on the price. I do not believe getting a TPA COA would help the price be bumped up enough to make it worth it. Sadly there is just not a strong market for this stuff.

I don't want to stray too much off-topic, but there's always been a curiously low amount of (for lack of a better word) respect for Frank Robinson. As one of the greatest home run hitters of all time, he's routinely sort of passed over with regard to the 'value' of his memorabilia and cards. It's puzzling.

I think Robinson's relatively low value has a lot to do with his attitude. I saw him at a show once and he was pretty standoff-ish. Then when he was the manager of the Nationals he pretty much refused to sign anything at spring training and at times acted like having fans there was some kind of burden.

Wow,
Frank's attitude must have changed for the best... He was stellar this past weekend in Cooperstown... Was gracious, took plenty of time for photos and hand shaking... He even got a youngster an ice cream cone! |

Maybe he is realizing that the people he thought were annoying are the people who remember who he is. I'm sure sooner or later all players come around. Glad he's among them now.

I met Frank Robinson a bunch of times when I was working on Camden Yards in 1991. Looking at him he was an intimidating fellow, yet when I talked to him I found he was very engaging and friendly. I did not ask for an autograph, though, which is when he supposedly gets irritated and frustrated with fans.
I do agree he is very underrated, and not sure why. I always thought maybe it was because he never left baseball, going on to manage and then front office jobs. While others of lesser talent retired to do the autograph circuit and give interviews and talk about their achievements, Frank was still working to climb higher and higher withing the game he loved. |
