The 1937 Detroit Tigers Scorecards cover top left hand corner has a letter designation. I have seen M, S, L . What does this mean if anything? Thanks for your help.

It may relate to the version of the card over time as it relates to the particular series. Earlier versions of the Tigers scorecards contained an individual serial number used to ID a fan who won tickets to a future game. Not sure if they were still doing this by 1937.
My research on these shows these numbers ran from lowest to highest throughout the season. This has helped me spot scorecards that have be "scored" after the fact in order to make it look like it came from a significant game. There are other things to look for as well, but then it begins to become a function of the scorecard by team and period as much as anything else. Dave Grob DaveGrob1@aol.com |

We see the 1937 copyright notice at the lower left, but what then is the significance
of the circle above the T in "Tigers" that appears to indicate "1950" in Roman numerals?

Hello Dave and Butch:
Thanks for your comments on clarification, and additional question about roman numerals adding to 1950 for a program in 1937. I hope there are some more collectors/dealers who will weigh in with some more answers as to why. Thanks again! Phil |

I am seeing MML, which in Roman numerals is 2050? MCML would be 1950, but the C is out of place...

It is possible that the C above MML enclosed in a circle is the separate copyright (or attempt at such) for either the artwork on the program or the depiction of the tiger, with MML the initials of the artist.

I don't know what it means, but my opening day April 16, 1940 scorecard has an "A".
I have no others from 1940, and the ones I have from 1941 & 1943 have no such lettering. Edited to add : Yes, I think my scanner cut off the bottom of the cover, I need to take a look to confirm, but my early 1940's box is buried kind of deep. We were gonna suggest the "S," "M," and "L" on Phil's programmes obviously stood for small, medium, and large,
but Doug's "A" pulled the rug out from under our joke. Seriously, however, might the A, S, M, and L indicate different print runs for different dates of publication? Are there differences inside or on the back of the scorecards -- indications for the date of the game, different lineups, different advertisements?
