I am curious to read opinions about which Topps set (mid-grade, raw) from the 50's is easiest to complete.

58 was the easiest for me. No real scarce series and rookie cards were limited.

If you don't need gray and white backs for each available card this set is easy. Nothing scarce nothing overly expensive, no big dollar rookies, rather small set, and no expensive high numbers. 1958 a close second but has more cards.

1951 Red Backs, 1956 or 1958. 1959 is not all that tough either but the highs are slightly harder to find.

Another vote for '56 Topps.
I think I read somewhere a while back that the print runs for 1956 Topps were greater than other years, so it makes the cards easier to find. |

The easiest? Only 206 cards (Snider is #210 but four cards were never released). Supposed scarce high numbers are not really not all that scarce. Think of how all the money you will save not having to buy cards you don't care about and put that dough into the Clemente, Koufax, Aaron, Killebrew, Mays, Snider etc., although I doubt you will find some of them raw if midgrade. No Mantle to worry about in this set but you can get one in your next

I thought the 58 Topps was the easiest of the 50s sets to complete. Plus, lots of stars, all stars, and combo cards makes it one of the cooler sets. The "major" cards are pretty easy to find; Mantle, Maris RC, Mantle/Aaron...

Arguments can be made for 55, 56, 58 or 59 I suppose. I'd say either '55 or '58 is easiest though in my opinion.
This has been discussed before...check out this thread: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=174006 |

... I'm going to throw a vote to the 1959 set. Although I agree with the other comments, I usually collect low grade ... but my 1959 set is almost NM becaue it's so cheap and easy to do. The only real RC is Bob Gibson. There is the Mantle regular and Mantle AS. And outside that ... nothing very challenging.
1958 has three mantles, the Maris rc, Ted Williams, etc. 1956 has Mantle, Ted, etc. that get pricier ... and the commons go for more. So while all three are doable on a budget and we're really splitting hairs, the 1959 set would get my vote. Cheers, Patrick |

1951 Topps Red Back of course, after that it is 1956 topps, in my opinion, as i stated earlier. It is certainly not 1955, the high numbers and clemente and koufax make that fairly tough off the bat. 1958 is a little pricer as it has the all star cards and the multi player stars like WS Foes. 1959 has pricy high numbers but the mid series cards are very cheap, making this also a possible candidate for second place. I will stick to my original thought though, exempting the 1951 sets the next easiest i believe is 1956.
