I am looking at an 1929 American league baseball. It is faded. Is it worth getting? Not sure what is the value of this type of ball. Thanks.

Hard to say what it might be worth without seeing a pic of it. How do you know it's 1929?

Should have E.S.Barnard on the side panel. If not it could be a minor league ball from the same era. A couple hundred in that condition sounds about right...

That's a nice baseball...stamping is faded some, but I agree with Brandon that's easily a $200+ baseball.

Looks like it has been slightly used...but I would pay $2-300 to keep in my own collection. Stampings look good and are, as I mentioned, what I look for...some collectors look at the laces or the ball itself...but to me its the stamping on the balls that make official league balls unique and coveted.
I think most ball collectors follow the same ideals...Stamps-Laces-Ball...not to mention dating. Just how Ive come to see the hobby. If you can get it around that that price Id say good piece.

The price has went over the roof on this one. It is out of my range.

It's the bogus story & fake Ruth signature on it driving it up.

Yup. Too bad, that is too over priced for the vintage ball.

Yes, the autograph on it is horrendous. The ticket though is a HR stub, about number 490 something that Ruth hit, I believe.

Snapped these two photos last Sunday at the Alameda Point show...I'm not a ball guy but a friend told me it was overpriced..but I don't know looked pretty rare and nice to me....probably the lamest Alameda I ever went to...flat as a pancake...nada nothing....This ball was about as interesting as it got...

I am far from an expert, but it doesn't seem overpriced to me. What pops out to me is the spelling of Spalding as Spaulding. That seems to happen a lot. Mike

According to the price guide, it is worth $700.

If you were to go by that guide that price is for the ball only. Mike

That 1917 ball and box looks darned nice. I don't collect equipment but as with cards and memorabilia and autographs, personally, I can see paying extra for something like that.

What its worth is in the eye of the collector. $700...well worth it, and almost a steal IMO...if its a 1917 and not a later Heydler style minor league ball...only one guy can really tell you that one...Brando?

Based on the font used for the "1" as well as the shortened stitching on the Spalding logo, I don't think it's a 1917. But I could be wrong.

It's not 1917 but the next model, around 1918 - 25. $700 is a pretty good price for a ball in that condition and with the box.
