Are there lithographic differences among the T206 backs, T-213's, etc.?

Hi all. Sorry if this topic has already been visited. There was a recent comment in the June Pickups thread about how, in this person's opinion, T213's colors tended to be more vibrant than T206. This got me thinking. Were there differences in how T206 (and each of its backs), T213, etc. were printed? In general, do any of these sets have "better images" (e.g., brightness of colors, accurately overlaid colors, quality of ink)?

The only printing difference that I know of is that some of the Coupon sets (can't recall which ones right now) had a different gloss that often leads to creases.

Obviously, any of this would be a generalization. Even if one set were to generally have "better images", there would be countless individual cards that do not fit the mold.

In my opinion type II coupons have the most vivid coloring...followed closely by I with type III's being dramatically smaller with muted coloring.

Type 2's are prone to cracking...type I's are thin as paper.

All true and I will add that the type 3s are on a bit heavier stock and can be found in nicer shape than the other 2 series, generally speaking.

Are you both also agreeing that Type 2 coupons have more vivid images, in general, than any of the T206?

Coupons tend to look better because they were printed in much less numbers.

206 brown Old mills, Blank backs and proofs have very good registration and nice color because they were the first printed. The first runs of 150s and the first runs of 350 AB, BL, Cycles and Drums tend to be very nice looking cards also.

In my experiences I would say the type 2s are pretty close to T206 in vivid images with the other 2 types of Coupons being not quite as good. And I am sure there are exceptions on individual cards.

I wonder if the glossy coating on the type-II's enhance the colors.

I agree about the gloss. I think it makes the colors pop, especially in scans.

Whatever the reason, the images sure stand out more than their type 1 and 3 brothers and T206 cousins. At least through my eyes.

Being a gutter card collector, I have always appreciated the fact that even a beat up T213-2 card can have very vivid color and look fantastic for such a low condition card. I believe the T213-2 used deeper hues, and this combined with the gloss is a winning combination.

There are a few CBs, one known BL350 and yes a Pirate. The T206s, I am told, haven't come to public auction in 10+ years.

I'm quite content if this is as far as the run gets.

i believe there are discoveries to be made in regards to the backs of cards...

sometimes collectors focus on the front so much, they miss slight differences...

still working on the E90-1 back discovery...EBAY is a great testing ground..so many cards for sale but SO FEW with the Shaded Reverse Borders!
