I have seen a lot of 206's in the last few days that look great and pass the eye test only to be graded 2-3-4. Is there something im missing about these cards that cause them to graded so low.
2nd question what do you guys think about 206 buybacks topps encased in the allen and ginter style holders. Does that add or subtract value. Should I liberate the ones I own or leave them alone? last thing for now can I get get some opinions on this ty cobb value wise ![]() Courtesy of COMC.com Last edited by T206Fan; 03-05-2013 at 05:08 PM. |

Nice Cobb.
I liberated most of my T206s from the Topps outer card.

Just curious but why did you purchase the buy backs if you wanted to liberate them?

![]() Quote:
Professional grading is not designed to reflect eye appeal. It is designed to point out flaws, often hard to see or hidden, in a piece of card board. When you see a clean-looking SGC 30, you actually know there are a lot of hard to see flaws. When you see a badgered up SGC 30, what you see is what you get. But not all SGC 30s will look alike -- in fact, at that level of the "pyramid" you will have a lot of different looking cards. This becomes problematic when sellers try to sell a PSA 2 for what a previous PSA 2 sold for. Without comparing both cards, going by the number alone gets you nowhere because what you don't know about the previous card is whether the damage was similar or whether the eye-appeal was comparable. Sometimes you can get a pretty good deal on a nice looking 2 when a seller is willing to use a previous ugly 2 as a comparable. This is why they say, "Buy the card, not the holder."

This should give you a good idea of when "Skydash" first posted about his discovery:

A very nice find of t206s and I believe Colgan chips with many rare items that first came about right here on this forum.
The owner was a pilot and his username was Skydash. Something about his wife's grandmother threw it all out and it was luckily saved at the dump. Silly to slab it Skydasn and not the grandfathers name. In the end I think he wasn't related and only on here for help and publicity before selling it.

Well this is the second deal that didnt happen. The guy that owns this card wont go lower then 1330 and thats more then i want to spend on it.
The other deals was for a jimmy collins peidmont back in a buyback holder he was asking 250 we settled on 220 I ask for insurance on the card and his next message was he was keeping. So first 2 attempts on a HOF went down the tubes. |
