New member in search of Giants
Thank you Leon for allowing me to join your forum.
I'm a long time collector of trading cards, having started with not sports but non-sports cards: 1977 Topps Star Wars.
Eventually I graduated to the senior circuit in the 80s with baseball and football cards, buying boxes of everything that came out. Then came the dark period of the late 80/early 90s with oversupply and mediocre product.
I tried to stick with the hobby in 1993-94 when Upper Deck started making advances in product design with their SP product. Even then the focus had already become the ever elusive "hit" or "insert". I stopped collecting soon after while going to school and trying to build a career.
I just bought my first card in 15 years earlier this year - a 2012 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Matt Cain - and I was hooked again. But this time, other than what I buy for resale, I have a new goal.
I'm working on a set of every Giants pitcher to ever pitch in a World Series game. Since much of their success happened before they came to San Francisco, it means searching for vintage cards.
Sorry for the wall of text as I'm pretty excited with this project.
Chris
