Default Cards That Never Come Up For Sale

Why not have one of these threads going on the post-war side as well?

Here's mine: 1958 Omaha Cardinals - Bob Gibson

Never seen one in nine years of searching except for a poor black and white scan on Beckett's website. I have seen other players from the set, however.

1974, 1975 & 1976 San Diego Padres Dean's Photo. I've seen the Winfield from the 1974 set once, and seen scans of the 1975 & 1976, but have never seen them for sale anywhere.

Default Pepsi colt 45's

1963 Pepsi Colt 45's Bateman, Lillis, and Warwick. I did see them in an old REA auction, but unfortunately I saw it a way after the fact.
Other than that auction, nothing.

I almost never see 1948 Gunther Beer Wash. Senators PCs or 1948-50 Safe-T-Cards come up for sale. Anyone have any?

My "White Whales" can certainly be found, but not in the conditions I seek.

For example, I crave #404 Dick Brodowski in a well centered PSA 6-7. But all that ever seem to come up are lower grade 4s and 5s, or badly centered 6s and 7s.

I also have literally never seen a centered Yogi Berra card come up on ebay. None. I think he's a real sleeper in the set, and honestly at this point, I'd pay a big premium to get a centered one.

1956 Parkhurst Football card #33 Calvin Jones. The only time I've seen this card was in a REA auction.

Hi Phil,
A few years ago, I traded My Early Wynn Safe-T-Card. Ditto for the Gil Coan, Sam Dente, and Clark Griffith examples I had (wish I had kept the Griffith!). Currently, I have the 2 cards I care most about in this set, Sam Rice & Mickey Vernon, because I collect all cards of these 2 players.

What surprises me the most about this set is that WaJo does not appear in the checklist - maybe a WaJo card is yet to be discovered - if so, maybe I'll get lucky some day, as I live in the area (Wash., DC) where these cards were distributed, and I go to yard sales, garage sales, estate sales, etc. frequently.
Best,
Val

Thanks for the info, Val. Wish you still had the Wynn and I could get it from you. I'm also hoping for a Gunther Beer Wynn someday......

I thought it was unconfirmed that the Safe-T McGowan actually exists...was there one on ebay? I have looked for years now and have never seen one...I did take about 2 years off over the past decade, so it's possible it slipped through the cracks in those years. I might cry if I missed it as well!

Hi Derek, the Gibson card actually has 3 pinholes if you look closely, still a pretty nice card. I think Phil all ready knows about it

In 25+ years I have never seen a complete 1960 Bazooka box with Clemente - In fact I have only ever seen 3 other complete boxes from the set. I would pay dearly for the Clemente. Anyone............................................ ....

Default 1962 Jello shortprints

Maybe not to the level of scarcity of some of the previously mentioned cards. But there are a handful of 1962 Jellos that I haven't seen or have only seen once (other than in the occasional complete set for sale) in ten+ years of looking--Pagliaroni, Maye, Larker, Grammas, Richardson, Law, among others. Recent eBay sale of a Bill Skowren box for somewhere northwards of $1K--tough short print in a full box for a outrageous sum.

1955 Old Homestead Franks Des Moines Bruins
1955 Columbus Jets Photos

Default 1963 Milwaukee Sausage Seattle Rainiers

Most recent sales that I could find:

1. 1995 - REA auction - lot # 773 - At the time it was the only known complete set of Milwaukee Sausages. 10 of the 11 cards were listed as being in NrMt to Nr/Mt-Mt condition with no stains on them of any kind.

2. June 1997 - REA auction - lot# 254 - Bill MacLeod VG/VG-EX .

3. December 2005 - Mastro auction - single card, player unknown.

4. August 2007 - Mastro auction - lot being offered, number/players unknown.

5. August 2009 - Net54 member Jim Manos had one for sale on Ebay- single card, player unknown.

Been looking for a Seattle Mariners team issued postcard of Bill Mazeroski for a while and have had no luck. Same goes for the Dave Niehaus.

My super oddball thing I want (and probably only I want) is that in the wake of Marshall University's 1996 DIAA championship, a very, very small quantity of phone cards featuring 1992 national champion quarterback Michael Payton and 1996 national champion quarterback Eric Kresser...I saw one once on ebay, have never seen one in real life.

Why is a Milwaukee sausage company issuing cards of the Seattle Raniers? Was the MSC brand sold extra regionally? (I live on the east coast so excuse my ignorance).

The 1963 Milwaukee Braves had a farm team in Washington, but it played in Yakima. The 1963 Seattle Rainiers were the property of the Boston Red Sox, so who knows?

Post-war, I've been looking for a '59 Bazooka Richie Ashburn (one of the very short prints) for several years now without success. Pre-war, a '39 R303A Teddy Ballgame tops the list!

Regards,

Larry
