Greetings all,I have a trophy im hoping someone can give me some info on it.Ive had this for 10yrs im not a baseball collector just always thought it was really cool.
It is 15 1/2 tall, batter, looks to be maybe silver plated old 1920ish style uniform .Has a copper base with a silver band around it with "James E.Mansfield Trophy For y-Park Baseball League" engraved on it. The only mark i can find on the statue is a small "copy right U.S.A on the left shoulder. Any help will be great ,what i what to know , 1)what era its from 2)who made it 3)make who it was made for ,i looked a little on line but couldnt find anything about the engraving 4) And worth, think it should go to someone who'll appreciate it . Thank You David ![]() ![]() |

Its a great early 1930s Figural Trophy, and is very collectible. Baseball collectors will eat this one up. It's about the same size as a Spalding (perhaps just slightly smaller) and just about as nice. Terrific detail and size...
I have seen these go anywhere from $700 - $1,400, so there's quite a bit of range. I spent $1,250 for mine, but it's dead-mint condition. Yours looks very nice.... perhaps "EX - EX/MT" with the expected amount of surface wear and a slight bend to the bat. As long as there is no restoration or repair (re-attachment of feet, bat, etc.) it could command as much as $1,100. I would say it's more of an $800 piece in this market, but you never know at auction. I personally would not accept less than $700 for it. These are very tough, and make incredible display pieces. If you go the auction route, Hunt's does a very nice job with these items. SCP would be another good option for consignment. Hope this helps, and best of luck! |

Sir ,thank you for the help .I looked all around the wed found one picture of just the figure for sale but couldnt seem to find anything else, that is why i posted it here.
It is a wonderful piece ive always liked ,but im a military collector and doesnt really go in my area of collecting. There doesnt seem to be any repairs that i can tell but only finding the one picture on line doent really tell me anything. Also the bat is bent? The one i had found online had the same twist to the bat figured they were all that way. Ive had this piece for over 10yrs ,i found it in a free pile lol,my son at the time was 2yrs old had wanted it for his room. Then as he got older hes changed his room and it been hiding in a box . If anyone wants any info on this pm me i have a bunch more pictures and really want this to go to some one who will care full this wonderful piece of history. Thank You David Last edited by davenh; 09-07-2012 at 04:42 AM. |

Maybe the bat was made that way... mine is straight, so that apparent bend led to my assumption.
Best of luck with your sale. If nobody here offers you fair market price (which I'm guessing might be the case), you should consider consigning it to Hunt Auctions. |

I certainly wouldn't think it was made that way. According to the angle of his arm it is definitely bent. Is the bat free of his back heel?

That's a real nice one...a real classic that I think maybe more rare than the Spalding's....It seems like there's a smaller version of it that is more common...If I saw this at the National I'd be all over it and it would probably be one of the best trophies there...and I can envision a little more ambitious price than $1,400.00 at the target rich National.

Yes it attached to his heel and looks looks to be no repairs on it so im not sure .I figure the bat would have broken off before it bent like that.
Thank you all for the help with this . David |

Terrific piece. I have seen quite a few over the years, and Mark's valuation is right on. The market is a bit soft currently, and that bat is a bigger deal to collectors than you think. I would look in your area for a silversmith who could bend it back. If it costs $50-$100 you will come out waaaaaaaay ahead upon resale. DO NOT try it yourself. Such a repair is perfectly acceptable and you would not need to disclose it IMO.

Never seen that one before.... It appears to be more like a decorative Statue than a Trophy. I wonder if it's a "one-of-a-kind" or something that was produced. Looks big and beautiful in the photo. Either way, it would surely command a minor fortune today.
